I live in an apartment.
my ole lady has a key.

anyone crawling through my window, well, had to come up either a flight of stairs, or up the back balcony. Should be pretty clear cut what their intentions are.
however, I certainly don't wanna blast our maintenance man, coming in to service my A/C.
course, after hours, well, he better have brought some beer with him. (we can say beer right?)

Your Mom has a key to your apartment?

Surely you're talking about your mother because I just know that you have more respect for your spouse than to call her an 'ole lady'--am I right? I sure hope so.

you've never heard that term of endearment?
really?

my ol' man, my ol' lady?

although we're not married, I would say I have an indulgence of respect for her.

wow.....

I would never dream of referring to my wife as "my ol' lady". She is known to all who know me as "my better half". And its true ;-)

"Old lady" was an ironic term of endearment 40 years ago.

I refer to the lady whose name appears next to mine on our marriage license as Mrs. Casey, because she has a short temper and she can shoot.

I guess you could say I'm from the old time, ( 65 yrs.) been married 41 yrs. and I cannot ever remember referring to my wife as ole lady. I wil say Linda or Babe or my wife. And she can shoot too.

Another perspective -

Suppose your teenage daughter met a few people somewhere. A week or so later, she gets a call from a girl or young woman, one of these people she doesn't know very well, who wants to get together and comes over to pick up your daughter when no one else is home, so no one knows where she is. Your daughter doesn't come home that night.

Thirty-six hours later, your daughter comes home looking very tired and tells you that after the girl picked her up, they were drinking a few beers and that's the last thing she remembers until she was walking home the next day. Turns out she was probably slipped some Rohypnol or another date-rape drug by her new "friends".

As bad as it is to imagine your daughter being abused this way, it's even worse to imagine that she didn't know what she was doing during the time she doesn't remember, and that she would have been shot "no questions asked" for trying to climb in what she thought was her own bedroom window, by a homeowner who didn't care that she wasn't carrying a weapon and considered her a "criminal" and a threat.

Something to think about, because it happens.
