Don't get the 90 days of utility bills
Been reading the forum for some time, first post.
My wife and I are both CHL holders, difference is she has a "green card" and when she purchased a new gun at
Academy they made us get 90 days of utility bills because of the green card. Proof she has been here for at least 90 days.
She has been here for 20 years and what if all bills were in my name? I guess my question is. Is this a federal thing or academy thing? A green card is a federal form of ID and she obviously passed the background check. Maybe it is just me but I don't get it.

It's a fed thing. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/nonimmi ... green-card" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
However, you will need to put your alien number or admission number on the ATF Form 4473 (5300.9) and provide the FFL with documentation establishing you have resided in Texas for more than 90 consecutive days preceding the transaction.

Thank you sir. Just does not add up to me, but who am I to question the Feds?

You'd think they would realize that it takes longer than 90 days to get the CHL.

First, it seems to be going faster than that recently. Second, I got my Texas CHL before I moved here, so a Texas CHL doesn't prove Texas residency. Third, there's no requirement for bureaucratic regulations to make sense.C-dub wrote:You'd think they would realize that it takes longer than 90 days to get the CHL.

If the utility bills don't reflect her name, possibly old driver's license, rent receipts, Tax returns, Medical records, other dated bills.
I mean if a person gave birth to another in a hospital in Houston in say March 2009, they kinda had to be here to do it.
Utility bills are just what Academy asks for, but it isn't the only acceptable "documentation" ... just be careful what you allow "Academy" to copy (potential for Identity theft)

Oh believe me, all account info or other personal info is completely blacked out on anything they get.

Re: Don't get the 90 days of utility bills
you know, in hindsight, I'm surprised we never blacked out stuff ourselves... I might mention to my old manager there that they should make a copy, black out the personal info, then copy that for better security for the customers. Do it all in front of the customer, then give them back the originals and the first copy (as you can still read through sharpie...)NightTrainHD wrote:Oh believe me, all account info or other personal info is completely blacked out on anything they get.
Seems like a lot of employees would consider this a hassle, but it definitely makes sense to me...As long as your name and address is shown on them, there's no reason for us to know how much you spent on water in the last 3 months (or whatever other land-based utility you choose to bring them)
about 65 days to plastic...
Carry guns:
Springfield V-10 3.5" 1911(thanks again, Texasvet)
Glock 26
Springfield XD40 4"
Llama 1911 (hey, don't knock it. Never had a SINGLE reliability problem with it. Over 1000 rounds through it.)
(lots of long guns, and a few other pistols for other use)

Next time just buy it yourself, then you don't have to worry about it.

She feels better knowing the gun she has in her holster is registered in her name. I guess what's mine is hers and what's hers is hers.magillapd wrote:Next time just buy it yourself, then you don't have to worry about it.

No gun registration not that I don't understand what you mean by saying that but its not registered in her name if its not registered at all
Re: Don't get the 90 days of utility bills
It doesn't have to make sense. If she feels better buying it herself, let her buy it herself.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

When did we start registering our guns?NightTrainHD wrote: She feels better knowing the gun she has in her holster is registered in her name. I guess what's mine is hers and what's hers is hers.

Let me rephrase, was purchased in her name. Not registered, sorry for the slip.Kythas wrote:When did we start registering our guns?NightTrainHD wrote: She feels better knowing the gun she has in her holster is registered in her name. I guess what's mine is hers and what's hers is hers.
