Cheap Ammo?!

#1

Post by SIGnificant »

I'm not sure how good of a deal this is, but it was pretty good to me. I picked up 300 rounds of Federal Champion (9mm) for $60 and 200 rounds of Federal Champion (40s&w) for $60 at wal-mart.

It was the wal-mart at 45 and West Rd. in Houston, Texas.

$10.00 a box for 9mm is pretty good, that is what I pay for wolf steel case ammo mail order, plus Federal is brass cases and probably better ammo.

I was just at Walmart in Friendswood (El Dorado / I-45)
Picked up 6 boxes of Federal 9mm, $10.47/ea plus tax
I wanted 8 boxes, they said (wrongly) that Wal-Mart policy is 6 boxes max.. this policy changed 3 months ago or so... but oh well, still got 6..
I actually wanted 100 round WWB, but they didn't have any, so Federal is close enough for punching holes in paper

I just bought 250 rounds of Remington UMC in 40 S&W for $69.99 (Mega-Pak) and a 100 round box of Winchester White Box in 9 mm for $19.99 at the local WalMart....the 9mm has gone down, it used to be $22.99...

$10.47/50-rd box of Federal Champion is Wal Mart's everyday price. Can't be beat anywhere. Next lowest I've found locally is $10.99 for your choice of Federal American Eagle or Speer Lawman 115 gr. 9mm at GT Distributors. Everyone else around here - even Academy - is at least $12-$14 range for a box of 50 9mm FMJ.

Another good deal - far as I can tell, first .45s I've ever purchased .... 250-rd box of Federal American Eagle 230-gr .45 ACP for $89.99 at GTs ... about $0.36 per round, or $18/50 ... seems about $1 per 50 rds cheaper than I see .45 elsewhere.

Federal was $9.47 then raised to $10.47. That is a good ammo. If it is back to $9.47 it would be better.

:iagree:

And it is decent ammo, though I have better luck - accuracy wise - with American Eagle and Speer Lawman.

Winchester white box nets 100 rds + 2-3rd extra for $20. That is still good deal on good ammo.

i dont have a .45, but i would buy that ammo just because its so cheap. That would give me an excuse to buy a new gun.

Hope you were armed. That's the "bad" Walmart.

Back on topic..Federal is pretty good stuff. That's all I've ever put through my .45 (for target practice that is).

Yepper, that stuff not long ago was a few bucks more. When I saw it for $19.97 earlier this week at Wally World in Highland Village, I jumped on a bunch of it. Plus, for convenience sake, several boxes of the Federal at $10.47. 9mm is the lifeblood of our training biz and I don't foresee the price getting any better than that.

I am also a big fan of the 100 round boxes of 9mm 115 grain Remington JHP for $25.97. That is my SD round for the Sub2K.

Had occasion to go into the Walmart in Garland on I-30 at Broadway/Beltline. I checked their ammo prices to compare to my local Walmart in Rockwall - also on I-30, about 10 miles from the Garland store. I was surpised to see the Winchester White Box 100 rounds of 9mm going for $23.97 while my local store is selling the same for $19.96 - $4.00 less. You'd think that the prices would be the same, however I learned from my girlfriend (a former Walmart employee) that the local store manager sets the prices so they will vary from store to store. She said the Rockwall store is reputed to have lower prices than surrounding Walmarts. So it would seem to pay to shop around at different Walmarts if you can.
