Re: Introduce yourself
Just wanted to check in, here...
Relatively new to shooting (couple of years).
Got my CHL mid-last-year. Carried for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
Got a couple of 1911s (5" .45 for home defense and 4" Commander-ish in 9mm for concealed carry) and an XD(m) in 9mm (got the urge for a polymer gun and 19+1!).
ADthanksVANCE for patient replies to my likely bone-headed statements/questions...

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi folks, great forum you have here! Hope I can contribute something useful, I've certainly learned a lot here while lurking!
I'm fairly new to shooting, a good friend and his father opened my eyes a few years ago by inviting me to shoot some clay pigeons and I've been loving every minute of it since! Don't have a CHL yet, but that's going to change ASAP.

Re: Introduce yourself
Like I said, depends on a lot of things. Each has its place. I like the glock for shorts and a T-shirt (I'm 165 pounds and 6'1, if that helps...) in the summer, but if I'm in jeans, wearing any shirt tucked in, or am going to be around other gun nuts, I ALWAYS bring the 1911. The XD was my first pistol, and it gets used mostly for open carry on the ranch while hunting pigs. Makes a great truck gun, too. I'm sure it would make a great carry gun, but I can't afford a 3rd nice holster as of yet, so it's the one that came with it for now.USA1 wrote:Welcome to the forum firefighter3217
Wow! a Glock and a 1911 ...So which side will you be onfirefighter3217 wrote:
My carry guns are (depending on the weather/what I'm wearing/what part of town I might be in):
Glock 26
1911
Springfield XD40 (4")
during our friendly little Glock vs 1911 debates?
I did a search for "milt sparks" last night, didn't get any hits (unless I was too tired and typed it wrong), so does nobody else here have a milt sparks? I've got the Summer Special for my glock and a Versa-Max II for my 1911. Got the idea from a few friends at academy that have had CHL's for a long time, and I could almost never spot theirs. I tried them on, and carried them around the house one day, and found the retention dead on perfectly balanced between keeping it snug and getting it if you needed it, and they ride in a great spot. Only downside is the cost and wait time, but I found a 3rd party seller that had one in stock...
oh-- FWIW, I respect what Glocks are capable of. Yeah, I've seen the torture tests, and they're brutally simple... However, I find the artwork of Mr. John Moses Browning incredible, ingenious, and Colt should quit screwing with it and go back to Series 70, 1911A1, or the 1911...That said, I've got a knockoff 1911 until I can afford the Series 70 I've got my eyes on, so if you're got a series 80 or 90, you've still got a better 1911 than me...
Last note in this vichyssoise of verbiage, I like the ability to customize the 1911... grips, wilson combat/ed brown parts inside, etc... the things I'll be doing to that series 70 when I get my hands on it...

Carry guns:
Springfield V-10 3.5" 1911(thanks again, Texasvet)
Glock 26
Springfield XD40 4"
Llama 1911 (hey, don't knock it. Never had a SINGLE reliability problem with it. Over 1000 rounds through it.)
(lots of long guns, and a few other pistols for other use)

Not sure what your opinion of Taurus is, but I have heard a lot of great things about the PT-709 slim. Easily concealable, 9mm ammo is cheap at the range and can get the job done... If you're looking for something like a .45, and don't mind Taurus, the PT-145 does that. Having shot one (1 magazine at the range-- I asked the guy next to me if I could shoot it), it tries to jump out of your hand, but I'm sure with practice it isn't bad...
Other than that, there's always the Bersa .380...
Sometimes the SigPro 2022 can be found for $399 or so... might be worth a look...
And that said, I'm out of ideas without looking at a gun store's shelf...

Re: Introduce yourself
Was looking at the XDm in 9MM to begin with, it has been a few years since I have handled or fired handguns and with ammo prices the way they are I would prefer to stay in that caliber. I have no opinion on Taurus as I have never fird one, only handled them in gun shops. Shortly after posting this I saw Academy's new ad for this week and noticed the 609 price cut to 329, could possibly be an option. Thank you so much for your help.firefighter3217 wrote: Well, lets start with the basics: Do you have a caliber preference?

You may want to try CDNN Investments and download their catalog. They often have police trade-ins at good prices.

Re: Introduce yourself
Hello everyone! I am new to this forum, primarily because I just found it a couple of weeks ago. I have been associated with other similar forums for a while, but I am still pretty new to the world of CHL. I did get my concealed carry lic. in 2009, but shortly afterwards, was diagnosed with a physical problem, had major surgery early last year, and have been getting over that since then, and am now much better. So.....haven't been doing much gun stuff. I am looking forward to getting to know many of you here, and to especially glean as much as I can from the knowledge base of this forum. Hopefully, maybe I can make a worthwhile input every now and then!!!
FYI, my SD item is a Sig p229 two-tone, with .40 cal. and .357sig cal factory barrels, and a Bar-Sto stainless 9mm conversion barrel. I just received the conversion barrel a couple of weeks ago, and am looking forward to shooting it. My primary SD cal. is .357sig, but I have SD confidence in all three, including the 9mm in +P and +P+ loads. I got the 9mm barrel primarily for cheaper target practice, and for an additional SD cal. for ammo availability situations. I bought the Com-Tac IWB holster, and I really do like its features. Because of the surgery, I probably won't be able to wear a belt, so, I may have to do something different for concealed carry.
While my signature/info doesn't show it, I am located in Greenville TX, so, maybe over time, in-person get-to-gathers, with others in the area, for "whatever" reasons, could be enjoyable!

Re: Introduce yourself
Hello Gang,
I have been meaning to join a CHL forum for quite some time, but couldn’t find the time until today. It is too cold outside under our current conditions here in Mountain Home, TX so I thought that I would get it done.
As both my forum name and avatar indicate I am retired Army. After retiring almost 20 years ago, I was a private investigator for a short time (boring!) and ended my working days running an ice machine distributorship in San Antonio, TX as their general manager. In between, my spouse and I accomplished one of our lifelong goals by cruising the Western Caribbean in our 40’ sailboat. I have been retired now for 13 months and wonder how I ever had time to work with all that I have going on now – farming and ranching.
I grew up with weapons and have always felt comfortable with and around them and I am a member of the NRA. However, I have just in the past several years gotten involved and interested in hand guns and even more recently concealed carry. I believe that it is my responsibility, civic duty, and right to protect my family, friends and neighbors, myself, and my property to include lethal force if necessary.
I carry a Bersa .380 Thunder and keep a Springfield .40 in my center console in my truck. I also keep a RG .38 Special in my sofa storage compartment at my place here in Mountain Home. I shoot my Bersa almost daily at my gun range at the end of my daily walk. I go thru a lot of ammo, but I’m pretty good with it.
I look forward to spending time reading many of the threads and hope to learn a lot.
