Doesn't fit the agenda, I'm surprised they reported it at all.


Had there been a "friendly fire" incident however...

I think initially it was an accident it got out at all. They were interviewing two people soon after the shooting. One was a doctor that "played dead" and ran around "checking pulses" after the shots ceased and the other was one that ran toward the shots to help; they had already engaged the shooter and he helped restrain him. When asked if he was afraid he said something to the effect of, "I carry a weapon so no. By the time I got there the shooting had stopped and some of them were struggling to subdue the shooter." He was also very self effacing.

“My staff is working on looking at the different legislation fixes that we might be able to do and we might be able to introduce as early as tomorrow,” McCarthy told POLITICO in a Sunday afternoon phone interview.

Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) said he’s preparing to introduce a similar bill in the Senate.

“The only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly,” Lautenberg said in a statement. “These high-capacity clips simply should not be on the market.“

Gun control activists said it was time to reform weapons laws in the United States almost immediately after a gunman killed six and injured 14 more, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in Arizona on Saturday.

Many said that people with a history of mental instability, like the alleged shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, should not be able to buy a gun — and no one should be able to buy stockpiles of the ammunition allegedly used by the 22-year-old assailant.

Briefly: Postings on other forums directly from Arizona indicate there's a lot of panicky commentary from state legislators, including picking up on the comments from the child's mother that "We have to protect the kids." Looks as if AZ is in for a tough few months over this.

They should listen to the girl's father instead. He said things like this are going to happen sometimes in a free country, it shouldn't happen anywhere but it's better than the alternative.
