Uh-huh.

That is a lot of pot. Hay bales typically weigh 60 pounds.

Re: Galveston, Texas City: Hot times in the old towns
Two men described as white attempted to rob a woman driver at a drive-up ATM at 4900 Seawall Boulevard at 12:30 a.m. Monday. The woman drove away without injury.
I use this ATM frequently. It is perfectly set up for a robbery. The ATM is inside a sort of short tunnel away from areas with traffic.
Two men described as Hispanic hijacked a woman's motorcycle in the 2400 block of Broadway around 6 a.m. Sunday. The men pulled up next to the woman on the street. One jumped out, produced a handgun, pushed the woman off her bike, and rode away.

A bale of coastal hay weighs around 60 lbs. A same-size bale of alfalfa weighs a whole lot more. Dunno if marijuana is more like coastal or alfalfa. Never tried to smoke any of them. (Mom cured me of ever wanting to smoke anything).seamusTX wrote: ...

Galveston, 11:30 p.m. Thursday, 3300 block of Avenue M, armed robbery (presumably of a pedestrian) by a man riding a bicycle.
This is a residential street where no one wants to be unless they live or have business there.
Texas City, Friday, no time reported, FM 1765, three women gave a ride to two men who directed them to another location and robbed them.

Re: Galveston, Texas City: Hot times in the old towns
In Galveston, Monday, a 21-year-old Texas City man was arrested and charged with kidnapping. He allegedly held his "girlfriend" in an abandoned residence in the 1900 block of 32nd Street in Galveston.
While this was essentially a "domestic" dispute, there's no telling what a man that impulsive might do.

In Texas City around 8 p.m. Monday, a 71-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by his 40-year-old "girlfriend" in an argument over a turkey. He is in the hospital in critical condition. She has not been arrested or charged.
A police spokesman said that alcohol may have been involved.

You know, my first thought was also "does marijuana have the same density as hay?" I don't know either, but I bet tobacco is denser, on account of it doesn't have all the hollow bits that you find in hay, so maybe marijuana is too.ELB wrote:A bale of coastal hay weighs around 60 lbs. I don't know much about pot. I was just trying to give a general idea of what 60 pounds of plant material would look like.

I just realized I left out half my thought, which wouldn't be the first time. If pot is more alf-alfa like, i.e. denser, than it might be more like half a bale. Still a lot of pot, I guess.chartreuse wrote:You know, my first thought was also "does marijuana have the same density as hay?" In Texas City Saturday three people were shot inside a bar at 527 Texas Avenue. One man died at the scene. A man and a woman were taken to the hospital. A 61-year-old suspect was arrested. The motive for the shooting is not known.

Based solely on the address, I'm not surprised.

Re: Galveston, Texas City: Hot times in the old towns
A second victim in this case has died, and the alleged shooter has been charged with murder.
Reportedly the suspect got into an argument with Victim A, pulled a revolver, and shot the victim.
The man who would become Victim B was reportedly a 58-year-old retired police officer. He tried to wrest the weapon from the shooter. He was fatally shot.
Another bar patron then took the weapon away from the shooter.
The newspaper does not say how the female victim was involved, other than that she was also shot but apparently not seriously injured.
http://galvestondailynews.com/story/195986" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Note that the suspect allegedly carried a firearm in a bar and shot a man as a result of a verbal argument. Both of these acts are felonies. So much for gun-free zones.
One wonders how long the 61-year-old suspect had been carrying a weapon illegally. Perhaps the paper will report his background when they can get the records.

Re: Galveston, Texas City: Hot times in the old towns
It turns out the alleged killer was the son-in-law of the first victim. Relatives said the suspect had recently separated from his wife, but no specific motive is known.

Re: Galveston, Texas City: Hot times in the old towns
The suspect in this case reportedly was a felon who was convicted of attempted murder of an ex-wife and arson.
One of the deceased victims would have celebrated his fortieth wedding anniversary December 19.
http://galvestondailynews.com/story/196486" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
At age 61 and charged with multiple murders, I don't think the suspect will have to worry about his 401(k).

The suspect in this case has been formally indicted for capital murder and aggravated assault.
It turns out the victim who was shot and survived was hit by the same bullet that killed Victim A.
