Surprised they caught it at all, ever.
Did they make him show his Earth naturalization papers, or get on his case about being an illegal "Alien"?

I do believe that I would draw at the first opportunity against an already drawn gun or knife. There might also be a move to push the BG's weapon away while drawing mine.
I'm also intrigued by the race issue. The use of "flesh" to describe a Caucasian isn't really all that accurate either. Everyone is flesh colored. Right? I don't like the term African American for various reasons. I'm probably more comfortable with white or black even though no one is actually white or black. They just seem to work better to me.

Re: Armed robbery at work near me
Parking garages have always spooked me, even during daylight hours, most especially unarmed.
I used to park in two different ones in downtown Houston (depending on my work situation) and they both gave me the heebie-jeebies...
So, now that I can carry I haven't had to park in a single one and though armed now, I work at not ever having to use one.
As a younger guy, I don't recall ever seeing "white" as a category on any form requesting my race. Among the various race choices, "Caucasian" was the one listed for so-called white guys like me.
As time progressed, the choice did evolve into "White" as a category, why I have yet to determine...though I'm not in the least bothered by it. I'm as proud to be white as I would be were I any other race...
My guess as to the evolution of race category: Caucasian as a race choice isn't widely known to be "White" as once it was.
Why this is so presents another guessing game...

What about those of us who are mixed race?
I've never seen a choice for Asian-Italian-Polish-Irish-American.

That's because the blend you describe is covered by "American". You get hyphenated enough, you drop the ingredients. Like stew. You don't call it beef-potato-onion-carrot soup, right?

How about growing thicker, rather than thinner, skin, and not looking for things to feel insulted by? I know plenty of black friends who think the whole "African-American, Afro-American, etc..." thing is silly, if not downright insulting. Several have told me they feel that being labled as African before American detracts from their "americaness" and implies an alleigence to another country over their own. Many of them are Amercian verterans who have never even been to Africa. It's just another case of bending over backwards to try to avoid hurting the feelings of a vocal minority who are bound and determined to have their feelings hurt regardless of what is said. This sort verbal wrangling and intellectual dishonesty leads to people like John Wiley Price insisting that the term "black hole" is racist. I personally find someone actually using the term "Euro-American" as hilarious as I find being chastised for using the term "white" offensive. C'mon guys... not everything your neighbor says has been calculated to offend you, and sometimes a spade really is just a spade.

If the government wants to stop racism, they should stop asking people their race on government forms.

President Roosevelt said "There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all."
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

I've occasionally put "honky" on various forms. Usually job applications when I'd decided I wouldn't take the job if they offered it.BobCat wrote:When there is a check box for "Race", I have been known to check "Other" and write in "Human." Never noticed, never any trouble. I think nobody looks.

Re: Armed robbery at work near me
It annoys folks, but I consistently list my race as Texan. When challenged, I tell them to put me down as they like. They are racist, it doesn't matter to me.
I've found that people that think race is important are not important to me.
