Armed robbery at work near me
Lot of things happen that never make the press.
Two days ago a group of two young men and a young women hid on the second floor near the stairwell of a parking garage near me and surprised a person walking to their car at about 7:00 at night.
One of the men had a gun. They wanted the car and took it. It was later found abandoned in Conroe. All the BG's were euro-american. I don't know if they robbed the person of their money, cards and id also.
So did they just need a ride to Conroe?
Obviously, if the victim was carrying, he would have been surprised and they had the drop on him so pulling his weapon might have gotten him killed. Situational awareness probably would have helped here. I am somewhat surprised that three people can hang around in a garage near the second floor stairwell and not get noticed. But he may have been the first person up the stairs after they hatched their "plan" to get to Conroe.
They could have also done the "do you have the time" nonsense to get up close to him, before pulling the gun.
Anyway this has somewhat shocked me as this is a pretty "safe" area, and I guess I am somewhat surprised that it happened so close to where I work. I am also troubled by what the appropriate action should have been for someone who was armed.

Re: Armed robbery at work near me
Pretty hard to see people hiding in time to draw. Avoiding places where they can do this goes without saying, but isn't always possible. In the event someone has the drop on you, armchair quarterbacks are a dime a dozen but only you can read the situation and come up with a plan at the time. For myself, I think it would be hard to have a gun pointed at me and not be really convinced this person may shoot me no matter what I do to avoid identification once he gets what he wants. I decided a while ago that I am not going to leave that decision up to the BG. I would have to decide between going for his gun or putting enough distance/cover between us (taking a chance on his aim) to have time to draw mine. I'm no expert, that's just my thoughts on it. I will be interested to see what the tactical experts on here think.

What is a "euro-american"? Will I know one when I see one?

Please, Euro-American or Caucasian, many find the term "w****" to be offensive. I know I do.Warhammer wrote:I think it's over-PC speak for "white."Oldgringo wrote:What is a "euro-american"? Will I know one when I see one?
Seems I am often forced to select "other" when asked about my race as these are never listed.
When it is fill in the blank, I will write "C" for Caucasian. Not sure why, but I will get funny looks, when I turn my form in, when I fill it out this way. I think all Euro-Americans should follow my example.
If you are Caucasian and have ever compared your skin color to a sheet of white paper you will find that your skin color is not white. As an artist in life painting, you mix three colors to approximate the skin color of a Caucasian, white, yellow and red.
Another way is to purchase a tube of paint that is premixed, the color is called "flesh".
Maybe if you want to refer to a Euro-American's race by their skin color you should then just say "flesh". Such as, he is flesh.
I prefer the term Euro-American, as once I had this revelation, it became clear to me why I preferred guns and cars from these two locations in the world. It was no longer that I was being snobby, it was because I was instinctively selecting my "roots".

I do not yet have my CHL, but I like to think that when I get one, and I carry my mouse gun, and if it was unavoidable that I was out late in a garage, I would like to THINK that I'd have my hand on my piece in my pocket while walking through the garage...

I'm not quite ready to apologize for the circumstances of my birth some three score and eight years ago. ITMT, you're correct about the color spectrum. The only really white folk I've ever seen were dead...and changing fast.philip964 wrote:Please, Euro-American or Caucasian, many find the term "w****" to be offensive. When there is a check box for "Race", I have been known to check "Other" and write in "Human." Never noticed, never any trouble. I think nobody looks.

Re: Armed robbery at work near me
When we moved here 20 years ago, my new neighbor wanted to know what "nationality" we were. I think he meant, where did our grandparents come from. I told him we are Americans - seemed to stump him.
Sorry for the thread drift/hijack. I get nervous when I read about things like armed robberies in places that most people consider "safe" because although I like to believe my situational awareness is good, the fact is that someone could jump out at me as described in the OP and I would not have a clue. The wisdom of drawing against a drawn gun is questionable. Another neighbor where we used to live was a retied cop, who claimed he could draw against me in that situation with water pistols (squirt guns) and win, every time, even though I knew what was coming. He was right. Can't see myself winning that one, with real pistols.
Regards,
Andrew

Re: Armed robbery at work near me
I have played out this scenario with two of my little brothers (18 and 20-years-old) using airsoft guns. Switching it up between one or both of them being armed, and them not knowing if I'm going for my gun or my wallet. I've had much greater success pulling a pocket gun than my IWB gun. Also much greater success against one armed attacker than two. I might sit down and video tape it so I can share it on here sometime.BobCat wrote:The wisdom of drawing against a drawn gun is questionable. Drawing on a drawn gun has always intrigued me because it's a very real situation where a BG can be "camping" around a corner and surprise you. I also don't believe it's wise to trust said BG not to shoot you once they get what they want.
So yes, it's risky, but I've come to the conclusion that it is possible and generally safer than the alternative.
Granted, it was practice with toy guns... so I wasn't having to deal with adrenaline dump or anything else.

If you want to be specific, Caucasian natives speak Armenian....philip964 wrote:Please, Euro-American or Caucasian, many find the term "w****" to be offensive. Since you carry concealed, the BG does not know you carry. You still have the element of surprise if you use it wisely. Try to find the right time when the BG is distracted or can't see you and proceed to engage in lightening speed. Have a plan and execute it decisively.Fangs wrote:I have played out this scenario with two of my little brothers (18 and 20-years-old) using airsoft guns. Many, many years ago when my husband first registered for college (this was before we met, and we've been married 30 years now) he checked "Other" on the race question and wrote in "Martian."macavity wrote:That's a good idea, I hope you don't mind if I steal itBobCat wrote:When there is a check box for "Race", I have been known to check "Other" and write in "Human." EDIT: For Race I'll put Human, for Ethnicity I'll put American.
The registrar didn't catch it until his junior year.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me
