mid 40's Male
Freelance Video Specialist/AV Tech (Conferences, conventions, seminar and that sort of thing)
Married
0 Years with CHL
TSR House 66 and 67
No Weapons yet

Well, that's some of the pertinent details I guess as posted by the OP. Here's a few more. I have not held a firearm in my hands since 1988 when the US Army and I parted ways. I currently do not own any weapons nor do I have a CHL. However, it is something I have been thinking of for several years. We had/have someone in the house who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and when she suffers we ALL suffer. It was pointed out to me on several occasions that if we had a loaded weapon in the house that it might used for purposes for which it wasn't intended. So, I backed off and have in general just lived and walked an unsafe life and walk. Sometimes I ride Dart and sometimes I have to walk in some pretty dismal areas and I just don't feel safe. Add to that all of the news reports of shootings and I am ready to take my stand and get what I feel I need to protect myself and my loved ones from harm.

With that in mind, until I get the funds to purchase a firearm, I am in full on research mode. I have found this forum to be a fount of information. Safety Rules to live by. Preferred weapons and methods of how and when to carry. Types of ammunition. Calibers. To re-load or not to re-load, that seems to be a question.

With that in mind, my thoughts have turned mainly towards a Springfield Armory XD(M)-40 in either the 3.8" or the 4.5" version, or the XD-40 SC, or maybe even the XD-40 Service Model. Probably the first in a 3.8". Based on holsters I have seen, I am most impressed with the Cross Breed IWB. I am still thinking about what ammunition to use, but I have seen that several of the folks have definite opinions as to what is the best for different situations.

So, that's me and my situation in a nutshell. It may be up to a year before I am able to purchase the firearm, however, I might just go for getting the CHL so that I am prepared when I can finally afford one.

Welcome to the Forum, Wysiwyg101. And congratulations on your decision to get your CHL. If you update your profile to let us know what part of the state you live in, you might get some offers to meet at a range and let you shoot some of the pistols you're considering. We're a pretty friendly bunch. ;-)

32 years old, Active Duty member of the National Guard. I found this forum a couple of years ago when I first seriously started looking into getting my CHL. Money and a deployment kept me from applying before. No more excuses. I took my class Wednesday and sent in my paperwork yesterday. I have carried in my car almost every day since the MPA passed, and plan to carry as much as possible when I receive my CHL. Spending time in Iraq, watching the news and worrying about the safety of my wife at home has convinced me that it is makes no sense to believe in and support the 2nd Amendment unless you are willing to excercise your rights as much as possible. I've been an avid shooter since I was a child, and I still have the lever-action .22 and the break-open .420 tht my dad taught me to shoot with, along with a Steyr .40 and a Kahr CW9 that I just bought for CCW. My wife came to the shooting game much later, but she was a very easy convert. She keeps a Springfield XD .40 on her side of the bed and will be taking her CHL course on the upcoming months.

Having not posted much before, I'd like to take the time now to thank everyone on this forum for the wealth of information that you share. It helped me select my Kahr as a CCW. It allowed me to correct my CHL instructor when he taught that churches and hospitals were off-limits for CHL without a 30.06 notice. Most importantly, this site has helped me reinforce and expand on my beliefs that an armed society is more polite, less crime-ridden, and safer from the excesses of its government than an unarmed one.

Thank you all for your knowledge, your courtesy, and your belief in our right to keep and bear arms. I look forward to being a contributing member of this community for many years to come.

Hi, All.

My name is Tex_Jonnie. My husband is a member of this forum as well. I am a 37 y.o. wife and a mother. I have a Bersa Thunder UC 9 mm and I hope to take my CHL class before the New Year. I grew up around fire arms but, until this year, I had only handled a gun once in 16 years; I am truly enjoying practicing with my 9 and spending time with my family at the range =) I am hoping that being a proficient handler will help my husband to worry less about me when we are apart. I have children that mean the world to me and I want to ensure their safety as well.

I hope to learn more about concealed carry and handling of my firearms through this board as well as legal issues re: firearm handling. I also hope to find other ladies on this board with which to chat about how to best carry, handle & conceal my firearms. It will be nice to have other ladies to share with.

Speaking of sharing with the ladies, I tried to post in the Ladies Only section but it would not allow me to post =( Oh, well! I am learning much from this forum... it can only get better when I'm able to fellowship with the ladies of this forum!

Welcome all!!!

maverick2076, I know where you're commin' from. I deployed in 2005 and had the same concerns as you in regard to my wife and son. I'm happy to say we are all CHL holders now. I applaud you and your wife for taking charge of your own protection! Welcome aboard! :patriot:

This is the newbie I have been talking about folks...His intentions are good, his mind is open, and when he can snatch the pebble from my hand, it will be time for him to leave... :thumbs2:

I told him this is the place to be to search for answers, and know that through a lot of good natured sarcasm and experience levels of the shooters and armchair politicians in our midst, there is a plethra of information and life experiences to reinforce what I will put him through...

"LRA" here will be searching and signinig up for his CHL class here very soon, and hopefully before the end of the year get that completed and the wait for his plastic will be underway...

He and I both have a trip to meet our "ladies" this summer up in Minnesota, and both of us plan to "fly" and obviously take advantage of our reciprocity with the great state of Minnesota, just because...

He has been advised to be a good student (like we all still are) of the law, equipment and concealed carry in general, and I believe he will be a fine addition to our community...

He is most welcome, and I hope he finds a nitch in here and contributes to our discussions from an interesting and personal viewpoint...I know he will...

Hello everyone:

29

Pharmacy Technician
I just received my CHL on November 22nd, so only 38 excruciating days of waiting :???:

My wonderful wife got me an LCR for my birthday in anticipation of my taking the class

I've only been carrying for four days now, but am looking forward to trying out different options. I'll probably just stick with pocket carry for now; that little LCR is almost forgettable it carries in my front pocket so well. Cheers!
