Screw the dork stigma-My $6.44 fanny pack is the most comfortable way I've ever carried my Bersa and an extra magazine; and it's as easy to draw from as my Uncle Mike's IWB (I cut one of the zipper loops so there is only one zipper for my hand to grab). Still, I would like a snap or a strong magnet instead of a zipper. I discovered the comfort level when I borrowed my wife's FP the other night when I was bumming around in my "Guitar Hero" boxers and needed a way to carry. If anyone wants to see a pic of me in my GH boxers just PM me.

I have used a Galco Buttpac (Nylon) for the last 20 years in the summer time. I've had one person ask me about what was in the buttpack in those 20 years. I told him it was my Colostomy Bag and I ask him if he was here from the hospital to pick up the sample. He jumped up and ran off.

In the summer I wear shorts, a t-shirt and tennis shoes/sandals. I have found the buttpac to be comfortable and the only one's who know you're carrying are other LE.

Several years ago I was in San Antonio for the Texas Police Games. In the evening the downtown and River Walk Area looked like a buttpac convention.

I bought a fannypack from Galco and used it on 1/1/96, the first day of legal carry. The Dallas newspaper had a story about implementation of the law and maybe that was all some jerk needed to out me at the supermarket. He asked, "Are you packin?" I went home, took it off and never wore it again. Hence my handle.

I happily use one when I'm wearing gym shorts that can't possibly support the weight of wallet, keys, cell phone, flashlight (and gun). Dobok pants have no pockets at all, that's the other time I wear mine.

I got one from Galco and it is awesome! I took it with me when I went on a camping trip across Texas and it was great with those long rides. I don't care what it looks like when I am backpacking and camping in Texas. Gives me quick access to my Glock 20 when out in the woods and it is comfortable. I already have the glasses so I will just increase the nerd factor or whatever people are worried about. That’s right I said it, I am a nerd and I love reading books also!! If it’s comfortable wear it and get your nerd on. Just my 2 cents.

Yep...a few gray hairs and suddenly you care a lot less what people think you look like.

Like others, what cooks my turkey is convenience. Driving all day with a IWB at 4:30 is not comfortable at all and the fanny pack slips on real easy to step out of the vehicle on those long trips. On the other side of the coin, the fanny pack would be miserable to try to sit down it so using it is reserved for those times when I'm walking or standing.

We had a situation on our last trip that made me very, very happy to have slipped on the fanny pack before I go out. When the incident started, it looked like it might just be a pan handler but my 6th sense told me not to count on that. The fanny pack gave me the option to be ready if I needed to be

I've had a Galco Escort since 1996. It's not my usual daily mode of carry, but it does get pressed into service for certain circumstances. For example, it's the best way I've found to carry while on my motorcycle. My gun is easily accessable, doesn't get flashed when I take of my jacket, and the bag blends right in to the rest of the black synthetic gear I wear. I also like it for time when I'm wearing gym shorts and the like, which don't offer enough support for another type of holster.

I've never had a single person "make" me while I was using the Escort. The design of the Escort allows you to pull the gun compartment open very easily rather than having to unzip it. It's really pretty fast. It carries the gun and a spare mag, plus it has enough room in the non-gun compartments to hold wallet, keys, change, etc...

I have a collection of leather ones. One specifically made for my Glock 19.
I usually carry my 26 IWB, but there are certain instances or times I still wear the fanny packs too.

If you select the outdoorsy patch carefully, the tree huggers in the city don't look twice either.

I know I do.
If I see a guy wearing one I wonder what can he possibly be carrying
in there that can't be carried in his pockets.(not that there's anything wrong with that)

Let them assume. Let them point, let them ask. I personally assume everybody has a CHL and is carrying. It is none of their business and concealed is concealed. What’s funny is a lady I know has a CHL and carries in a small fanny pack all the time in a populated suburban area. She says nobody even gives her a second look. She looks like your typical soccer mom.
I think it starts with the whole masculine thing with men and that real men aren't allowed to have a fanny pack because it de masculinates them. This draws the initial attention and then people start running ideas in their heads. I of course agree that more people will look at that and assume you have a gun.

I think as someone pointed out if you are in jogging shorts and a t-shirt most will not give you a second look. I see men all the time at parks,in my neighborhood walking and jogging or just in the grocery store with small to medium fanny packs.

Perhaps. It could also be that a healthy percentage of the population is in condition white and wouldn't believe that a fanny pack could carry a gun, too. The KaBar fanny pack that I have has a small square on it (the gun barrel goes off to one side of that square). Visually, it would appear that only a tiny gun like a derringer would fit into that size of a square. If anyone wants to think about that or even imagine it, that's fine. I'd bet that if you did a "man on the street" type interview after walking past them with the fanny pack on, no one would meant that they saw it or that it could contain a gun.

Only people who think about guns are going be looking. That is probably limited to people who actually carry (including non-CHLs) and antis. I'm not sure that all of the antis would know a gun fanny pack when they see it.
