Question about CHL Badge

I saw a friend of mine at Wally world yesterday, and he is a CHL, Our conversation quickly turned to that topic, gear, guns and conceal carry. He promptly told me that I needed to buy a badge just in case I am ever in an incodent that I should throw it over my belt just to show the cops that I have a CHL. Now I've never given it any thought and have on occasion seen these badges for sale in various magazines.

I'm not going to get one, just because I am not big into carrying extra stuff, but do any of you guys have one? Is it a practical accessory for you CHL holders who are not LE?

I'm not bashing it, nor am I promoting it but it did seem a bit odd to see one actually being used.

On this forum the general consensus is that the concept of a CHL badge, sash, banner or bikini-underwear is not looked upon favorably.

ESPECIALLY not the bikini underwear.

The CHL badge is marketed in a way that builds on a sense of fear over what will happen if you're in a position where you need to shoot in defense of yourself. That's a scary prospect on its own and then we add in the knowledge that a few people have had horrible fall-outs from self-defense shootings and then Erik Scott was recently shot and killed simply for unintentionally failing to properly conceal. The badge's marketing is couched in pseudo-analytical terms about "thinking" about what you would do and appeals to the authority of what's worked for those who have found themselves in that situation before--the police. It argues that if you give them something they immediately identify with, it gives you time to explain yourself and avoid being shot.

That might actually have some degree of truth to it for the minuscule percentage who have to shoot in self-defense and who are faced with a quick police response which they couldn't summon but were summoned by others who were not able to sufficiently relay what happened. In that situation, how likely is it that you're then going to be able to pull your badge and make it visible with a free hand? We're talking extremely remote possibilities here.

What's more likely to happen? Police see CHL holders wearing or carrying the badges on a regular basis and are offended. They develop a general attitude of suspicion and animosity toward CHL holders. I would guess that the prevalence of the CHL badges is going to actually increase the risk of a negative police response toward CHL holders in the long-run, making you less safe to use them than if they hadn't existed in the first place.

I think it was a good idea in theory, but just doesn't work well in the real world.

NO BADGE OR SASHAS's ... Only CHL attire that IS ACCEPTABLE: Red / maroon beret, Hawaiian shirt(s), camo, cargo shorts, gun belt and a certain diddy bop walk..IE: carry side, elbow bent and kinda sticking outward.

Only person who will notice is another CHL holder .... (( Just sayin' ))

This is such a disheartening topic. To me, people who want to carry a CHL badge are just LEO wannabes. In short, they are dangerous and posses a diminished mental capacity and should not have a CHL in the first place. Sorry that's just how I feel about these people.

Unfortunately there are instructors out there who advocate this. Personally I just don't see the value. I mentioned this to a LEO friend and the idea really annoyed him.
