Went to State Fair yesterday, unarmed (Don't have holster yet) Anyways to start with, didn't realize that it was a holiday yesterday, fair was croweded. When going thru wander, search was so quick, it beeped but she never asked about it (was keys cliped to my belt look, covered by shirt) Anyways, the way she wanded me, she would have never found a gun even if I had it.

As for the Old Mill, we went there for lunch. I have to say the food is great and not expensive, much cheaper then the fair food. Anyway, it is not posted 30.06, it is posted unlicensed possesion is illegal. There was a sign on the glass by the front door that was covered up by a sign that pointed people to public restrooms. ON the inside wall next to the door, this was posted.
Image

Anyways, I don't see why you can't carry in there when there is no 30.06 sign posted. Great BBQ sandwiches!!

Based on your experience, it appears that the DPD warning not to carry in the Old Mill was incorrect information. Cotton Bowl too except during games.

Saw a number of CHL possibilities yesterday, the two most prominent of which were a guy in a gray Under Armour type shirt with Glock hat and my wife saw a guy in a black t-shirt with an over-large blue Hawaiian shirt with red flowers around the bottom that had only one button around the hips buttoned.

My wife asked a Dallas police sergeant why they're telling people they can't carry in the Old Mill.

He said that the State Fair made the rule and told them to say that. When she explained that it was city property and couldn't be restricted under 30.06, he said he didn't know what 30.06 was but that the state fair is leasing the property so it is private property and they can restrict anyone they want. As his explanation/proof, he said that it is just like Six Flags and that Six Flags doesn't even allow police officers to carry so the State Fair can certainly restrict you from two places if they want.

When she pointed out that the Cotton Bowl was restricted because it was only open during a game and that meant it didn't fall under 30.06 and asked why the Old Mill didn't have a 30.06 sign if it is restricted, he had no clue why a game was different and he said he had no interest in knowing it, either. He said when he retires that he'll have no interest in carrying. The implication was that anyone who carried was seeking out trouble/a wannabee cop. He was getting pretty defensive so she dropped it and thanked him for his time.

I went to the fair today. It was about 6:30 pm and I approached the security person wanding the other guests. The lady had one big "diamond" stud in her ear and seemed a little abbrasive. I was already expecting trouble by her posture and body language. When I asked to see her supervisor she questioned why and I then asked to be escorted to DPD to handle it. She still seemed clueless and asked if I had a weapon. I told her that I had a permit and that DPD would be able to verify everything. She then proceeds to turn around to her supervisor and yells to him "ive got a weapon here." He comes over and walks me over to the gate area where I wait only about a minute for the DPD officer. The officer takes my DL and CHL and compares them for 30 seconds then hands them back to me and says thank you. I then turned back around to exchange my Dr. Pepper can for a $3 ticket voucher and walk with my fiance in to the fair.
Overall it was fun, I was carrying a Firestar M40 in a Galco IWB and a Taurus TCP in a homemade kydex front pocket holster. Beside the fact that I was outed by the security lady, the supervisor and DPD officer were very courteous. The DPD officer even seemed pretty friendly. :txflag:

It simply amazes me how someone charged with enforcing the law can be so indifferent to it. He should stick to traffic control.

I was a little nervous, but simply had my CHL ready to hand the security personnel that were wanding, they walked me over to DPD. DPD walked to the side with me saying "So no one gets up in your business." Checked my DL vs my CHL, and told me to have a nice day. Caught up to my gf, and in we went. Spent about 5 hours, had a great time. Except I must say, Fried Beer was a HORRIBLE idea.

Now this is funny. Of course I took the picture posted above that day at the fair. I happened to be a guy that was wearing a gray underarmour type shirt with a glock hat. If that "guy" you saw was with his wife and 2 older ladies, then I'd have to say that you spotted me!! haha. If so, you would have been right had my IWB holster come in on time. I wore my glock hat to at least bring some type of gun to the fair!!!

As for the DPD officer, I beleive it. I told my wife that honestly out of all the cops that I saw, either sleeping in the life guard type towers or kicking back in the golf carts talking with each other. They only ones that gave me any sense of safety were the horse mounted police. They were the only ones with their game faces on.

If that was you, then I passed you while you were standing by the Cotton Bowl near a set of steps. I was wearing a green shirt, khaki pants and my IDPA hat that has the logo with a gun prominently on the front. I nodded to you as I passed. There wasn't anyone else around you at the time.

It looks like according to the map we went in gate 9. I showed my CHL to the wander who directed me to a supervisor. I told the supervisor I had a CHL and she walked me over the the Dallas PD officer who looked at my CHL and drivers license. He just told me not to go into the Cotton Bowl or the Old Mill Inn and wished me a good time at the fair.

If either of you saw a fit young man, wearing a loose fitting guayabera shirt, cargo shorts with a something bulging in the left front pocket a bit (maybe a revolver?), flip-flop sandals, and a beach-comber hat.....

....that wasn't me. "rlol"

I wore a gray Dallas Cowboys shirt with jeans. I doubt anyone would have suspected me for a CHLer though. My gun was pretty well concealed and I got there as it was getting dark.

Yep, that was me. I was standing there waiting for the girls to get out of the restroom. I remember someone nodding to me while I was there. Awesome. Kudos for being more observent then I was. :cheers2:
