Multiple Campus-Carry Polls

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Here is a list of campus-carry polls. We're loosing one of them badly. If you see one not listed here, post it in a reply and I'll add it to this list.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the only poll that phrases the question as "do you agree with Gov. Perry that ... "

In a town like Houston, which is liberal to begin with and hoping to elect their own liberal mayor as the next governor, a big portion of the negative responses could just be a Pavlovian response to anything that is anti-Perry.

Maybe it is similar to when I met a woman from Arkansas after Bill Clinton won in the primary for President back in '92. She said she couldn't stand him and most of the folks she knew wanted to get him elected President to get him out of Arkansas so they could get a real Governor.

Be careful on the KBTX poll. The rest ask some form of "should guns be allowed on campus" and should be voted YES.

The KBTX poll asks "are college campuses safe" and the answer should be NO.

If this a duplicate, please delete.
I thought I hit submit, but it seems to have gone in to space.

Thanks Charles for the links.

All the poles were about 65 pro/ 35 anti when I voted except for the ABC pole.
It was essentially split at 49/48.
The results seem to have narrowed.
Possibly due to TX CHL'ers efforts?

I agree that we should be allowed to carry on campus, but I do worry about being shot in error by police. There is simply too much chaos in those types of situations and having a gun in my hand at the wrong moment could get me shot. The smart thing would be to neutralize the threat if no apparent law enforcement presence, then immediately reconceal. Having a good stiff leather or kydex holster with which to reholster could save your life in that situation.

I will vote tomorrow once I can get on a computer.(I'm posting from my phone right now)

I voted no! If they allow guns on campus then more of this will happen. :biggrinjester:

Thanks Charles for consolidating this. Allowed me to do my part without lifting a finger...okay I lifted an index finger to work the mouse, but that's it.

Honestly, the real value of concealed carry on campus isn't with mass murders or shoot-em-ups. It's the every day rape, robbery, assault, carjacking, etc that students, faculty, and staff face day in and day out on campus and to and from campus.

The reasons college and university campuses should not be excluded places include practical, legal, and statistical concerns:
-That most universities in this state are state-owned. The same government that vets and certifies that you are sane, safe, and competent to carry including to assess when it is appropriate to draw and shoot all of a sudden says that you can't be trusted on their college campus. Why? They don't have any facts or evidence--just fuzzy emotions and unfounded fears.
-They are restricting your constitutional rights for no reason. They are actually working against the common good as well as your individual good in doing so. There is no compelling reason to deny you this right.
-They are making you and the rest of the college less safe by advertising that it is a gun-free zone to criminals.

Situations like this just exemplify how vulnerable everyone on a college or university campus is when someone with criminal intent appears, which is sadly all too often.

Thank you for posting this, I am completely in favor of Concealed Carry on Campus. I personally do not feel safe on my campus without my weapon, so I voted for carrying on campus in all of the poles. I think responsible students and faculty carrying on campus would make school a much safer place. :patriot:
