Speer Gold Dot LE duty ammo

#1

Post by magillapd »

I'm trying to find 9mm 124gr +p in the 50 round LE duty package. I have found some places online that sell it, however I am trying to see if I can get a local dealer to order it for me. The one that I talked to said that it was restricted to LE only and he couldn't order it for civilan use. I do not beleive this is the case. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to get a local dealer to order this. The one that I want is part # 53617

Is GT Distributors DFW store open yet? I don't think it is, but Austin store typically has this ammo in stock on the shelves and usually they are willing to sell a box or two to non-LEOs. Sometimes, if they're running short, they'll put LEO-only restrictions on it, but it's not a blanket prohibition like they have for Hornady TAP :grumble

GT's has an ammo restriction right now on non-LEOs... 50 rounds of self-defense ammo and 100 rounds training ammo (plinking) per person PER MONTH. I just bought some Speer GD HP's a couple of weeks ago, not able to get any more until end of Sept.

I'm seeing some very fair prices online. Why not buy it online?

:iagree:

If you buy it from an out of state dealer with no store in TX, the shipping costs and sales tax savings are just about a wash.

I was just curious why he seems to be against buying online. It looks like Streichers has it for $27 / 50.

He's not likely to find it that cheap in a store.

If you do decide to buy online, I have used these guys before. $25/box in lots of 10 boxes (500 rounds) including shipping. When I bought about 18 months ago it was $19/box shipped in lots of 10!

A bit of a hassle in that they want proof of age (probably a NY state thing) and only take cashier's checks or money orders, but good service if you are not in a huge hurry.

Honestly, I was hoping to find a dealer that could order from at a decent price. I try to shop locally and support my local gun store when I can. I know I can get it cheaper sometimes online, but I still try to support the little guy. But they can't get it, so It looks like I'll be paying close to $40 for a box of 50 after shipping.

Wait a minute - you're saying this store keeps a record of ammo purchases?

Yes, because they are a Law Enforcement Distributor and they cater mostly to LEO's. They need proof you are a LEO, so they track your information if you are a civilian so that you do not take advantage of the pricing. Hornady Critical Defense is only $12.99 a box from them... some people have bought from them and then resold it for profit.

On a side note, do you think buying ammo online is any different? Online sellers need your information to ship you the ammo, and you can bet your last dollar that they have a record of what you bought from them.

Not sure if they have that specific product in stock or not, but have seen before that Bachman Pawn and Gun on Northwest Highway seems to stock more of the 50-round boxes of SD or LEO ammo than typical gun stores. And generally at a pretty fair price.

How much do you need? I accidently ordered too much of this, and would be willing to sell some for whatever best price you can find. We could meet in Ft. Worth on Friday. PM me if you are interested.
