motorcycle and carrying

anyone ride a sport bike?

What kind of riding gear do you usually wear? I think motorcycle carry is one of the times when we have to choose our carry method around our dress, and not dress around our carry method.

If it’s a dedicated ride... riding Jeans (reinforced Kevlar), Shin/Knee guards, A*leather gloves, A* leather jacket, SIDI racing boots, and helmet. If it’s just to the gym...Jeans, gloves, leather jacket.

I carry either Kimber UC II or a Springfield champion stainless...I was thinking shoulder rig for the longest time but when I tried one on with the leathers, it didn’t seem like a great idea. If I happen to go down I would be (hopefully) sliding on my back, in which case the supertuck wouldn’t feel too great. I’m starting to think tank bag as well.

Yeah, I'd either go with a fanny pack or a tank bag. Keep a small zippered case in the tank bag so you can remove the gun without flashing it in the parking lot. I agree than I wouldn't want a gun right up against my ribs in the event of an unitended dismount.

I used to ride a CBR and carried in a magnetic tank bag. When I stopped the bag came with me into the restaurant or cafe.

whats with the sport bike stuff? i ride a honda vfr. I can ride just as long as any cruiser person. i carry mine in my jacket or tank bag.

sitting/ riding position. Cruisers/ touring bikes allow the rider to sit more upright...maybe offering more concealment options. On a sport bike one is in more of an aggressive sitting position.

My wife and I just recently started riding... like two weeks ago. I've got a Yamaha V Star 1100 Custom and she has the V Star 950. Both are WAY COOL! Anyway... I stated out carrying my Kel-Tec P3AT in my pocket with a Nemesis pocket holster, but wanted the comfort of carrying my usual. So I tried out the Glock 19 that I carry with a Dillion leather pancake style OWB holster, with just a button down un-tucked shirt. My wife was looking for it and couldn't tell that I was carrying.

I read some of the previous posts, and honestly the thought of carrying and having an accident never even crossed my mind. Has anyone had that experience?

I high-sided at about 25-30 mph and slid my V-Strom 1000 on it's side through a mud hole while doing some DS riding in Hill Country. Other than some scratched paint and a broken windshield, there was no real damage to the bike. I had my K40, a spare mag and my wallet in my fanny pack at the time. Besides getting a bit muddy and a few good bruises, I was none the worse for wear. However, I did come down pretty hard on my right hip and would have hated to have the gun there when I hit. The hips are primary impact points during motorcycle accidents, that's why so many riding pants have extra padding there. Putting a hunk of steel there just doesn't sit well with me.

Good point. You have me rethinking carry options while riding.

Few years back I had to lay mine down. The G21 I had acted as a pad. Didnt wear well on the gun but saved my hip from road rash. Did bruise though but rather have that than rash.

another good point (from actual experience). Now I'll have to rethink rethinking my carry options.

I still have it. I had taken it to a local smith to check out. He had to replace a few parts that cost me about 60.00 and it now works well. I do not carry it as the grip is pretty scratched and in turn scratches my side. But I do keep it as a reminder of what could have been.

FWIW, a little different landing could have been bad but at least I had some control as to how I went down car pulled out in front of me and I laid it down to keep from broadsiding). This reaction was only due to lots of years of riding, and several advanced classes.
