The basement at the Alamo is NOT 51% posted. It is nothing but a lost and found for missing bicycles anyway.
Re: Is San Antonio friendlier?
Went to Alamo and the morning of having breakfast. In walks 6 police officers from SA and they sit down by us. I very politely go over, excuse myself and ask them if I could bother them with one quik ?
They say sure. Is a CHL legal in the Alamo. Immediately the faces change and im told no way you are not allowed to carry there. I thank them and walk away. I didnt trust there answer and the car was not close.
We go to the Alamo and there is the security. I again go up and very politely ask the same ? His answer is as long as your licensed carry away. I had called the Alamo early in the week to ask about CHL and they couldnt give me an answer.

I'm confused as to why you would ever ask someone if carry is ok (unless you think it might be a school or other prohibited place by statute) - look for the signs. No sense making an issue over it, or encouraging anyone to think about proper posting. This is more meant towards folks that challenge non-compliant 30.06 signs than the Alamo specifically but my point is similar - if the posting is not valid, it's not valid.
The Alamo used to have a coaster sized gunbuster near the front door that I don't remember seeing my last trip there.

There is no legal signage. I carried in there and saw none.Vecco wrote:SA is gun friendly as most REP style Texas town, which Austin is not. Also I am really sure like 98% it’s illegal to carry inside the Alamo. I do believe that have a large sign right out front. I might be wrong, I have not been there in an a few months.
See? Except for the sign telling men to take off their hats before entering, there is no gun related sign out front.
I took that picture last October.

I'm under the impression that the Alamo is owned by the state, so it cannot be posted.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the last I heard the DRT only operates it.

That was my problem I wasnt sure if it was considered a goverment building as I was new in town. Mctowalot I agree with you concealed meens concealed but im not going to carry in a school lets say because its not legal. If your saying carry anywhere and just hope no one sees it I wont do that. Think of concealing were your not supposed too and suddenly having a medical problem. I know its a long shot but something like that can happen.

You had good instincts (in not trusting them). Altho I have generally not seen a lot of 30.06 signs (and ones I have seen have mostly been hospitals and Taco Cabanas), if the city government had its way, the whole city would have a 30.06 sign on it.
I would probalby have been cranky enough to ask for the names of the six officers and write a cranky letter to Chief Mcmanus about his lousy training program...

It is 100% legal to carry in The Alamo. There's one portion they request you not carry--I believe it was the Chapel, but I don't remember for sure--we were too busy with other portions when we were there.
