I've got an idea!

Texas is a dry/prohibitionist state by law. Texas' Constitution provides that "a political jurisdiction" can vote itself wet after the legal hoops have been jumped through. The voters speak and the issue is resolved in that "political jurisdiction" for two years.

IDEA! Let's have an amendment whereby the voters can decide if a "political jurisdiction" wants OC or not. Let the voters decide. Ain't that the American way?

There! The problem is solved and the politicians seeking re-election did not have to expose themeslves just like they won't take a position on the border situation. The voters will decide and the politicos can congratulate each other (sound familiar?) on a job well done.

surely you're not serious?

purchasing alcohol in a wet county and driving across the county line into a dry county is not illegal.

Yep, I'm as serious as an intestinal blockage. After the votes are taken and the laws are in place, OC becomes a local issue and the politicos can go back to working on their re-election efforts.

Just like the BG's rigidly adhere to 30.06 signs, the OC folk would stow their 'big irons' when they crossed the jurisdictional boundaries and we would all live happily everafter while learning to speak Spanish and Arabic.

what a can of useless worms that would create.

I live in (actually a bit outside the city limits) my originial hometown that is situated 2/3 in one county and 1/3 in another. The next larger city to the North actually has territory in three counties. The county line, which I cross several times a day (actually, my work takes me into 5-6 counties) is less than a quarter mile from my house. Just out of sheer caution, I don't think I would ever leave my own property with my "BBQ Gun" strapped on, knowing that I would most likely be crossing that magic, invisible line.

We have 256 counties to consider.

yeah.... probably.....

reminds me of my grandfather's bathroom light..... the pull chain broke off at the fixture (bare bulb fixture) in about 1960, and for the next 15 years they just licked their finger tips and unscrewed the bulb to turn the light off.

my chain is probably broken, and my bulb is most likely unscrewed

Not really. If the OC question was put to a popular vote, the question would be answered - win, lose or draw.

Assuming for a moment that the OC question was on the ballot, how would I vote? I dunno', how would you vote?

I'd vote for it if I was still in Texas. I open carry here in Kentucky now.

Do they also get to decide if they will allow Mosques? How about allowing Negros to vote?

Constitutional rights are Constitutional rights, no matter how much bigots don't like "those people" having rights.

The Negro voting question was answered a long time ago and I'm okay with that.

The mosque question was answered on 9/11/2001as far as I'm concerned. Anything I didn't already know about Islam was driven home in a murderous lesson that day by cowardly religious fanatic zealots bent on destroying the United States. No mosques allowed in this country! It's way past time we quit apologizing for being Americans.

Back to OC in Texas, if you please.

I don't know for sure how I would vote either. The only reason I would have for voting no is if there is any chance of my losing the right to carry because stores start posting 30:06 signs to keep out the OC guys. I truly believe this will happen. Right now today... I can carry concealed into McDonald's. What will McDonald's in Plano Texas do after a couple parents complain that gun toting guys are scaring their kids? What will Walmart do once the Wally Walk Involves open carry and city folk start expressing fear? I have a pretty good idea what will happen... at least in a big city area. Since most of these places are chains... it might even spread to the boonies where you live... that is once they get all the electrical lines out your way.

Your argument that the Second Amendment doesn't apply in Texas might have had the illusion of merit before the McDonald decision.
