Obviously, what's needed is a law requiring all bathroom stall partitions to be bullet resistant!! :biggrinjester:

I have been trolling sites like this for 9 years now, and this is the first time I can remember being reminded to avoid the natural response of grabbing at a fumbled weapon. None of my instructors mentioned it either. I think it is an excellent reminder. Thanks. In this regard, one thing I like about my OWB holster is the snap-on strap. The holster just sags safely at the throne. My IWB holster has no strap, and I have to be extra careful when dropping pants.

I believe that any gun, can go off at any time, announced or unannounced, when dropped.

To believe anything else, is to lull myself into a false sense of security and start disregarding the rules of gun safety.

That's how I feel and I'm unanimous in that statement
To understand the mechanics of a gun and know that they cannot just "go off at any time" is not a false sense of security.

To believe this way is to ignore logic.

My Springfield beats the problem by having a titanium firing pin which doesn't weigh enough to overcome the inertia of the spring when dropped. I choose not to drop it either.

I replaced the firing pin in my pre series II Kimber with a titanium model and installed a stronger firing pin spring to reduce the risk of an inertial discharge if a dropped gun hit the floor just right.

Dihappy is technically correct.

However, Joe817 may well have meant that treating every gun as if it could go off any time when dropped. If so, that's an approach that's hard to argue with and won't get you into nearly as much potential trouble as acting differently after thinking too hard about when it might discharge and when it might not.

But because I do, yes I would try to catch it. Wouldn’t matter if I did get my finger in the trigger guard and squeezed the trigger while catching it.
Without belaboring the point, I feel obligated to say that these are both very dangerous practices for reasons which have apparently been pointed out by others.

Practices that can be readily shown to increase a hazard and can't be shown to be reasonable are, to put it very mildly, inadvisable.

Aside from the obvious mistake and fault of the holder, why is it that public bathroom stalls always have a foot or so of open space at the bottom? :headscratch Is it necessary for sanitation purposes just to make it simpler to run a mop around the floor?

Seems like just running those dividers all the way to the floor would solve multiple problems (Larry Craig) along with giving folks additional privacy and some extra cover in the rare event an idiot drops a gun in the next stall.
I think cross ventilation and mopping is the main reasons...and checking for occupancy without opening the door on someone. Of course depending on the round, there would be shrapnel coming with it if there were full barriers.

On this date in July of 2009 AD, this particular thread of 'how to go to the bathroom with my CW' was born.

The first week I was carrying my Sig P238 fell out of my flimsy holster in a stall, landed right on the hammer. IT slightly chipped the tile and put a blemish on the hammer that is still very apparent today.

It didn't go off, but I stopped carrying until I got a good holster.

I know your post is in jest...but I have a very deliberate method of pulling my pants down just a little (thumb around the butt, hand over the belt), concealing my heater underneath my boxers (iwb), and then sliding everything down as needed. I'd illustrate, but I think I read somewhere that this is to remain a family-oriented message board. :nono:

I found this a while back in the bathroom facilities at Baybrook Mall in the Clear Lake area of Houston...

Image

The pistol in question is, yes, the "Sledgehammer"...

Notice the fine design and integration of the shelf in the stall...It was probably not designed for the express purpose of placing a loaded (condition 1) 1911 on it for safety purposes...

But I utilized it anyway...And you know what...Nothing happened...And nobody found out about my little secret... :anamatedbanana

Did you call security or the police?
Help support the Second Amendment by joining the NRA! We would not have a CHL program without them!

I think you need to read closer... What he meant he found was the shelf and used it to place HIS CCW on it while using the facility.

Baybrook mall not Drury motel.
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.
