Robert, +1 to what Charles said. I work in the same business, although I'm on the operations side instead of research.

CHL: only 5 months, but already feel nekkid without it.
Carry guns/Equipment: MK9, P-3AT, and G19 (on rare occasions). Various knives from Multi tools to a Tactical Folder (which is little more that a really good way to get into packages in my hands). Also a Streamlight and some source of fire. I’ve always believed that with a good knife and fire you could rule the world. I was recently confirmed in that belief reading the Lawdog Files.

As far as my choice of weapons go, I prefer a weapon that is both reliable and inexpensive, while still being at least as accurate as I am and comfortable to shoot. That way I can work inside of a budget, spending most of my money on ammo and range fees. I go shooting at least twice a month at American Shooting Centers and put over 150 rounds through both weapons each time.
