Got my first AR15, What do you think?

#1

Post by rocketexas »

I have been eyeballing the AR15 type weapons for a while (2 years). I almost bought one at the gun show 2 weeks ago, but I figured, one day a better deal will come my way at one of the local Pawn Shops. Well, after years of seeking, I think I got a good deal at the pawn shop and I pulled the trigger.

I have a few questions now...

1) So what upgrades should I consider or make sure the rifle has?
2) Has anyone heard of the "Noveske Firearms N4 Rifle"?"

The rifle seems to be a higher quality AR15, but who knows. What are your toughts?

The only upgrade I see you might want would be to get some Magpul magazines. Your rifle is pretty well equipped as it sits. Looks good! L us know how it shoots.

I agree, a few Magazines with a window is what it needs. I was also thinking of trading out the Surefire 600p with a shorter stubier light.. just not sure yet.

I paid $1400 for the setup, so it wasn't that much of a purchase from the $700 quote above. I figured a decent new AR15 would start at 1k and up after adding the mods. I did look at the Rock River arms at the gun show, they had a nice one for 1099.99. So A few more bills to have a EOTech and Surefire, I figured, I got my money's worth.

I read at the Noveske site, it has a 14.5 barrel with a flash muzzle to make it 16'' LOB. You guys had me concerned for a bit. I'm Legal.

Dig this, I was at a Flea Market (san antonio) last weekend and found a few sweet switchblades (Gerber and SOG) for $40 each. I so much wanted to get them, but after reading the Texas statues, Texas only allows Active Duty and Police to own/carry them. These things are selling for over $160 at the local knive store. I was so ready to make a few bucks.

Maybe you saved few hundreds, I am not an expert on those rifles, but a good Colt will cost you the same what you paid without the extras.
My first rifle most likely will be Sig SWAT with some goodies. At lease flashlight, laser and EOTech or the like.

I about peed my pants at this comment. Yes - they are fellow nosebleed top tier gun maker along with my favorite company, LMT. They both have great snob appeal - who can put a price on that!? You have purchased a great gun, at a great price IMO. Is that an H&K mag? If so, don't worry about needing a magpul P-mag - while they look cooler the H&K's are great mags too.

If you sell the surefire let me know. I'm looking for a full size LED tac light right now. Can't decide.

Furthermore, since you're soliciting opinions - ditch the EOTECH and get a real optic like an Aimpoint. Just sayin

Actually, in all honesty - if you choose to keep that second class optic on a such a beautiful gun you will need one of these to set it up properly:
Image

It is a Larue Tactical LT-110 Quick Disconnect mount, and it will raise the eotech up where the irons co-witness in the bottom 1/3rd of the optic. This seems to be ideal IMO as you get used to "seperate" sight pictures. If you get used to looking through the irons and eotech, when you get into a gunfight and your eotech goes down, you will see a different sight picture than you are used to and may take an extra second. I like having seperate sight pictures for irons and red dot/holo sights.

Again, just my opinion.

I think this is your best bet though:

Aimpoint Comp ML3 in a Larue M68 mount.

Also - what sling are you using - looks like a one point? I like the magpul and the Tactical Tailor but there are many great brands.

And another (weighted) question - what gun case did you get? I have a Tactical Tailor on order, but that great gun needs a great gun case.

Chime in...

I also say ditch the Eotech and get an Aimpoint. Battery life is ridiculous, clarity is better, and you can crack pecans with them they are so tough.

My next optic is a Trijicon 1-4x with green triangle reticule. And its going on a 16" gun.

I personally don't like the factory adjustable stocks, I would change it out for a Magpul ACS or CTR or even a UBR if you want to add some weight but really balance the rifle nicely.

Awesome rifle and a very good price for the quality you chose. Top tier is not a bad place to start.
