Re: TV Trash
I don't watch much TV anymore either. My wife seems to have two or three shows a night she wants to watch. I can't set thru most of what she watches for more than five minutes without leaving. Maybe that is why she watches??? I listen to podcasts and live shows on the "interweb" most nights. Everything I see on TV is either offensive, ignorant and/or a Soap Opera. I think all they have done with even most of the good shows is take a program that would last 30 minutes a few years ago and put in a dozen more commercials and worthless "emotional porn" so those that like that sort of mess will watch. I think most TV is geared for women anyway. Either that or I am just not as "girly" as the guys that like that stuff.
To be fair I will add that I think the same thing of most sports on TV. I think it is a distraction so the population won't pay attention to what is going on with the country. Not that the government is controlling programming or shows but that the people that make these shows are leftists types who have been propagandizing thru their shows and movies on TV for longer than I have been alive. Most of what in on TV is not Christian oriented or at least morally good for anyone. Three or so hours a day plugged into that affects people in negative ways. I didn't even realize how much until I stopped watching. I DVR shows and skip commercials and delete them if I don't like the show or agree with what they are trying to promote.

If you're paying for the sake of one or two shows, you might want to look into what a Bit Torrent client is.

i pay for uverse and i have a decent channel package. my issue is that i dont watch sports dont care about sports and never will.but they seem to add another sports type channel every month and im forced to pay for 3 different espn channels plus golf and on and on none of which i give a darn about.i dont even like the jesus channels but atleast that somthing better then overpaid athletes who drug themselves up and call say their "role models" or have to listen about goofer tiger woods.

Re: TV Trash
My justification for paying the cable company every month is
that we as a family don't do much else for entertainment.
I enjoy my DVR and HDTV. Anything we watch is recorded
and watched at our leisure. The best part is no commercials.

That's what I do. Canceled my cable 3 months ago and don't miss it one bit.MadMonkey wrote:
*cough* download whatever shows you watch or watch them online unless you're an HD snob *cough*
The plus is, if you have an iPhone you can get Air Video and watch any of the shows you download no matter where you are as long as you have internet access - it streams the video from your computer to your iPhone. I watched one episode of The Pacific on the plane while flying home from Atlanta last month - all streamed from my computer at home.
Air Video actually makes the price of an iPad worth it just for that. Hmmm.......

You streamed video over a 3G connection while flying?Kythas wrote:The plus is, if you have an iPhone you can get Air Video and watch any of the shows you download no matter where you are as long as you have internet access - it streams the video from your computer to your iPhone. I thought you weren't supposed to use that either. Pretty much anything that transmits RF unless specifically approved.MadMonkey wrote:I'm guessing Wifi...

We have cable strictly for the internet.
And we like the TV best when it's turned off.

There is a Crossing Jordan promo, often repeated on one of the cable chanels, where a wet behind the ears, metro-male, detective type, refers to a bad guy as "one of those Don't Tread On Me, 2nd ammendment types". Since I'm one of those types I guess they don't want me watching that silly, overly dramatic, product of a drugged, Hollywierd, liberal mind!

Re: TV Trash
We are almost completely netflix or DVD around here. Commercial TV has no appeal left. 99% of the shows (cable or free air) are just plain insulting to ones common sense and/or intelligence.
Situation comedies are anything but funny, most are a string of symptoms of a sickening society.
Reality shows are about as far from reality as they can get. Nightime soaps at best.
I prefer to spend my time here in forum land, or in the shop crafting ammunition or tinkering with mine or others firearms.
The funny thing is I can remember my parents were making the same kind of statements 50 years ago about all the new programming.

I have seen that commercial. I usually scream "Shut the expletive deleted up" when I see that! Plus that channel's commercials for its own shows are generally way too long!jbenat wrote:There is a Crossing Jordan promo, often repeated on one of the cable chanels, where a wet behind the ears, metro-male, detective type, refers to a bad guy as "one of those Don't Tread On Me, 2nd ammendment types".
