Isn't .45 Colt normally named .45 Long Colt?
Life is for learning.

Re: .45 Auto vs ACP
The .45 Colt is exactly the same round as the .45 Long Colt.OldSchool wrote:

The .45 Long Colt name was required in the late 1800's to differentiate
between the .45 Colt and the shorter .45 Schofield.
With the passing of the .45 Schofield as a popular round, the name .45 Colt
is now the most accepted name for this cartridge.
Personally, I refer to it as ".45 Long Colt"

Exactly the same round..45 Auto vs .45 ACP - basically the same round, right?
Not to be confused with 45 Colt (aka 45 Long Colt as noted above) or 45 Auto Rim, or 45 Super or .45 GAP.

Re: .45 Auto vs ACP
I've never actually heard of it as 45 Colt, always 45 Long Colt. You learn something every day.
Re: .45 Auto vs ACP
I had to give this lesson to my 14 yr old 'self proclaimed gun expert' nephew at Christmas this year. His cousin (another nephew) wanted a 'cowboy style' pistol for his Christmas present from his parents. I helped his Dad pick out a nice Uberti single action in .45 LC. When the 'gun expert's' parents went to buy him some ammo for a present he told them 'Yeah, .45 is .45', and even when his Dad said he thought the rounds were not the same, he convinced him they were and they bought .45 ACP. Luckily I bought the ACP from the nephew and he went and got some LC.
I have decided if I start a business I am only going to hire teenagers as they ALWAYS know EVERYTHING!!

Re: .45 Auto vs ACP
Glad to see someone threw .45 Auto Rim on there just to season the pot. When I saw the title I immediately thought that it would be a comparison between Auto Rim and ACP.
According to my grandmother, a Cavalry brat whose father, John Sylvanus Loud, served from the "War between the States" to the Spanish American War, although the usage "Long Colt" came into being when she was a child, the average soldier know the difference between "Colt" and "Schofield" and didn't need the "Long" appellation to further differentiate.

OK, then we need to start a discussion on 9mm (Parabellum/Luger, Kurtz, Makarov...)Teamless wrote:This thread has confused me enough, that I think I will stay away from 45's!
