I have a friend who works at a bank. She was telling me about how this 95 year old woman used a CHL as a form of ID. It was a surprise, she said, only in so much as middle-aged men are usually the ones proudly using their CHLs to identify themselves.

I trust her enough to have been tempted to fess up, but I like keeping secrets.

I'll bet she only had a CHL to use for her ID; at 95 her family had probably already taken away her car and drivers license because of how dangerous she was.

If the law is written correctly, it will negate the authority of the company to forbid you from keeping your gun in your car, regardless of whether the company owns the parking lot.

I still do not understand short sighted employers. I am a small busisness owner and am about to hire my first employee. I am going to REQUIRE any emplyee to have (or obtain within 6mo....on my dime) a CHL. For the following reasons.

1. A CHL holder takes an active role in their own safety.
2. A CHL holder is less likely to have a "Victim" mentality.
3. I will feel better about my employees safety.

IMHO all of this will reduce the possiblility of a Politically Correct lawsuit.

This topic points out a flaw our society and how we have been conditioned to think. Concealed means concelaed I get that as far as the law goes. But, by saying we should not tell anyone we have our license: are we then not promoting that what we are doing is an aboration and is not nor should not be accepted by society in general?

If we do not talk to folks about it, how do you promote your right to carry? This is exactly what the gun banners want. If they can make us ashamed or feel the need to be silent for fear of persacusion they win. I am not saying we should wear sign saying LOOK AT ME I CARRY,(moslty because our laws do not allow it) but please do not be afraid to promote or discuss it.

Do not be afraid to discuss things you believe in with others. They may not agree, but no one agrees with anyone about everything. (1st and 2nd Amendments)

This forum is a great place to discuss things, but we all must know that the audience on this forum already thinks like you do on the right to carry.

There is a time and place for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).

I talk to anyone who seems interested. (I even carry business cards from a CHL instructor that I recommend.) I correct people when they say something outrageously false (like "assault weapons" being machine guns). I've written letters to the editor when issues were in the legislature.

I try to avoid shocking people. It does no one any good to mention in a crowd that I'm carrying a loaded pistol on my hip right this minute, and getting the reaction.

Maybe you can see it from the receiving end. My reaction to certain conversations ranges from annoyance to contempt. I've had people try to tell me where to worship, how to raise my kid, what to eat or not to eat, how to drive, etc. They did not persuade me.

For me, at a minimum, it's a matter of respect for others. Back in olden days, when I was just a young dinosaur wrangler, you didn't just blurt out political or religious convictions, or how many college degrees, or how large a paycheck, or your high score at the last match, or.... There was no need to risk offense (to whom you didn't want to offend at that particular moment, anyway ), and also risk releasing too much private information about oneself (yes, personal privacy was important then).

In fact, there are many facets of my life that I must try to keep "concealed," since there are many acquaintances and workmates whom I know would take them the wrong way. Yes, I know from painful experience.

There are many people who have (often valid) concerns about firearms. Mentioning the carry subject to an acquaintance or stranger is taking the risk of pushing a potential hot button, and it's really not necessary.

Of course, as has been adequately commented before, I'm not interested in letting anyone know about my carry situation at any particular moment.

That's not to say that one should never talk about it, I agree it's truly an important subject. But, if not around really good friends, pick your battleground wisely.

I agree no one should attempt to force thier believes on anyone else. Everyone has the right to believe just about anything they wish as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. That is my point, a civil discussion about as topic is just that a conversation between free men. If you no longer wish to be a part of that conversation you have the right to leave.

I am simply saying we should not be afraid to openly discuss these types of issues. For insatance I am not a particualy religious person, but I would never disrespect someone who is, by saying since I do not believe what they do, so they should not be able to discuss thier religion in my presence. I understand some may read that as an extreme example, but freedoms are freedoms and they are all important. I will gladly stand behind a persons right to worship, where and what they believe, because as a Nation that is one of the fredoms we established in our founding.

I do not mean to be preachy, but we can not go quietly into the night, or we will loose our freedoms one at a time. I know most of us know the following so I will spare you the whole monologue. (It references one of the greatest atrocities in modern history).

I don't know how many past threads I can find, but the point about "Don't tell everybody" is due to it coming back to bite you.

Members have lost their jobs shortly after revealing it or being outed. Others have had family or friend issues, such as not being welcome in other homes while carrying. We had one member who had to keep it secret from his parents when he visited them.

Then there's always the chance that at the worst possible time, someone with you will announce that you have a gun.

It's good to proselytize, but be very careful about the circumstances.

Guess I just see it diffferently. I do not see any reason that we should be afraid to discuss the topic and show support. How do we expect others to learn accept carry if we are unwilling to share our thoughts. Like I said you do not need to scream out I'm Packing(to each thier own), but we should not shy away from the topic.

By the responses I have seen I would guess most on this forum are opposed to open carry. Should we also have to take a class to recieve a free peach license as well?
