Re: Any sports car people?
I saw a new 2010 Vette Glass Top ZR1 (or Z01) in Sherman the other day and spoke with the female owner who said it was supercharged and 600+ HP. Cost.....over 100,000.00!

An 80'ish year old fellow church member of mine has
one of those rare Ford GT's - the one that is a pure race
car close to the ground.
His is red with white stripes and his Texas vanity license
plate is "0-60 3.2". Very slick.
************************************************************************
If you look at that white Mustang with the "Big Bend" windshield
banner in the photos above, note that he has taken advantage
of Texas law which allows a "year of manufacture" license plate.
So if you have, say a 1968 car, you can run a Texas 1968 "Hemisfair"
license plate on it.
At some point Texas stopped putting the years on the license plates,
so you can't always get a "year of manufacture" license plate to match
your vehicle's year.

You'll have to wait a year to use that Pit pass, looks like. USF1 didn't get it together in time.gigag04 wrote:For you autosports types, one of my dad's best friends (they serve on a board of directors together for a software company) is with the group starting up the America's first F-1 team. You know what this means for me? Pit access to any event :) Yes please.
I was thinking about joining SCCA for some track days. I'm gonna wait until I get this dang ring paid for (some big things coming soon I hope)
And then you'll have to do some traveling, Toronto at least.
We've been trying to get a Monaco trip going.
As for track Days, lots of other options - NASA, Texas Driving Experience, PCA, BMWCCA.
SCCA doesn't do track days hardly at all. they are more about serious racing.

Mixing cars and guns is dangerous stuff. There is a pretty good car meet at Cabelas in Buda every Saturday evening. The last time our club attended, I ended up buying a Hornady Lock-n-Load and accessories. Everybody just smiled as I came strolling back across the lot with a full basket and loaded up the trunk.

There are two things I've lusted for since I was a teenager back in the 1960s: an M1A, and a Ford GT.Insanoflex wrote:Apparently there's also a Ford GT regularly appearing at my sister's school
I recently obtained the M1A. Does that mean there's a Ford GT in my near future?

Re: Any sports car people?
I've seen several Ford GT's in person... gorgeous cars, but they're still Fords
Once I get a house I'm planning on picking up a Lotus 7 or similar stripped-down toy (Caterham, Locost, anything like that). Ultimately I'd like a Lotus Elise. I have simple tastes... or maybe realistic. If I was "baller" status I'd go no lower than a Ferrari F430 Spyder, I just can't afford the upkeep on something like that. Heck, I'd have to save for a year just to change the tires!
The coolest "sports car" moment I've ever had was when I was heading to a skating rink a few years ago. I lived near La Grange (yes, the ZZ Top one) and drove pretty much F-M roads most of the way to Brenham, TX.
Well, I had just gotten my first true GT car, a 1986 Toyota Supra. I was having a blast playing on the curve, when I suddenly saw a flash of red off to my left. I flipped a U-turn and headed back, and in the parking lot of a tiny bed & breakfast near Round Top there were 18 Ferraris of various models and years, a Lamborghini and a Maserati. I was in hog heaven I hung around for a while taking pictures.
It may not sound like much, but things like that are rare when you live in the sticks

This is my ultimate goal. The one of the left. A Tesla Model S. Sub 6 second 0-60 in a sedan.
The Roadster on the right is 0-60 in 3.7.
But in a few years, the Model S will be mine!

The Ford GT is awesome, but the GTX1 just takes it up another step.
I doubt I'll ever be able to afford one of those, but I am saving up for a Terminator Cobra.

Man I wish I had a pick of my buddy in my Miata.. he weighed about 350lbs at the time and was almost 6' tall. He looked EXACTLY like a chubby kid in a Barbie car, his head was even sticking out of the top!jbirds1210 wrote:Don't get me wrong.....couple of fat guys in combination with a steep hill and Carol the Corolla can move along quickly.

Re: Any sports car people?
Just a little bit of a car nut. My whole family is, actually.
I have my baby, my 1974 Chevy Nova. (thus my user name).
Back in its glory days:
Then this happened:
So I started a rebuild. Stripped it down, pulled the motor, sandblasted/repainted the subframe, new suspension, new brakes, new bushings, etc.
Went from this:
To this:
Then I ran out of money.
Some of our other family projects:
My sisters 1953 Chevy pickup. It'll be sitting on an 80s S-10 frame (so modern suspension, 4 wheel disk brakes, etc) with an LS1/T-56 6 Speed to power it.
My dad has a 1950 Plymouth that he's never gotten around to fixing (probably mine and my sisters fault with our projects)
If I ever get the Nova done, this is my next project, a 1984 Pontiac Fiero. Midengine, RWD....could be a fun sleeper.
My granddad picked up this beauty a few years ago....1942 Studebaker. Original everything except interior (rats got to it). Still a 6 volt, positive ground car. I took it to prom my Junior year.
And the daily driver, a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix. 240 hp supercharged V6, so its not bad for a 4 door daily. Its the first car I've ever owned with power anything, and thats nice too.
So in short, I'd say yeah, I guess I'm a car guy.
