Homemade Leather Holsters

Nonsense! That's what this thread is all about! Sure, I may be trying to make a couple bucks so my wife can stay home with our new baby, but I still made my holsters in my garage on a little work bench with my kids riding scooters in circles behind me! Let's see what you got! I used to make my holsters on a little 4' wide counter that doubled as a reloading station.



Last weekend I built a mobile 3' x 8' table based off a design by Norm Abrams so I had room to breath and store hides underneath.



This is the hand-powered Tippmann Boss I just got to speed things up.

I agree, Nonsense!! You can go back a couple of pages on this post and see mine from a year ago, too. I'm just enjoying the process and three dimensional art and trying to improve. I guarantee I can find a new way to mess up a piece of leather with every holster .

I'm working on an old piece of kitchen counter top supported by some left over kitchen cabinets in a garage workroom. Maybe 3ft of usable work space and 6 sq ft of piled stuff, right now. Nothing neat enough to post to the public like above. Sure don't want it captured for digital evidence of the mess. I will have to change up for the Boss when it gets here. My bench won't support the leverage on the press (sewing machine). A lot of my tools are homemade, catch what catch can .

My point is that there is no need feel embarrassed around us. If I can help or if you have questions about anything, there aren't any trade secrets here. Just ask. No promises that we'll know the answer, either.

I've pretty much a similiar set-up. Home made work table, some not so good lighting (fixing that will help a lot!) a scattering of tools and a determination to learn and make something useful.

I've been working my tail off the last 2 weeks and haven't had time to work on anything, but I'm trying to come up with an IWB design to make on my next break. Tomorrow it's off to Colorado Springs for a few days. I'll buy some more leather, a few more tools when I get home and see what I can turn out.

Post your pics, don't be embarrased. I put mine up, and they don't come near what these other guys are doing.

Ok particle, you inspired me, and I have spent four days making a work bench (cleaning, too). Note the vast number of leather tools on the bench.....joking....I use about 8 to 10 tools, that's it. That's all you need. The rest should be donated to the salvation army for a tax deduction.

That's a nice looking setup you've got there! Is that a screwdriver rack your edgers and such are in? I need to find a better way to store my tools. On my new bench, my "holster" tools just get laid up on the shelf. I probably need more of a portable box like a tackle box or art box, or tote of sorts as my table is 3" deep and about 43" tall, it's a little hard to reach the back wall... oops! Looks like you have great lighting on that back wall!

It is a cheapo screw driver rack (plastic) that came with some tools one time for the edgers and groovers and stitch spacing wheels. I drilled out a 4x4 for the stamping tools, xacto knives, etc. The lights forward (on the wall) make it difficult to see, I need more light behind me when working......next project.

Now I have to get in gear to do my work room. BTW, I think I recognize that belt on the bench. Nice looking work area.

If anyone is interested, I just posted a video on my website under the "How's it Made?" section that demonstrates how I build an Avenger style holster. I'm no expert, but I've learned a lot from forums like these and know there is a shortage of process videos for those new to leather working. This is my attempt to help those out that are standing where I was just a few months ago.
