I like the fact that if danger approaches I can unzip and slip my hand in the top all the while keeping everything concealed.

I had one experience about 35 years ago when a small semiauto carried "Mexican style" (sans holster) slithered down my pants leg and dropped onto the floor of a restaurant as I stood up. I immediately bent down, palmed it, and put my hand in my pocket as I walked away. No one noticed.

Except for those with unusual experiences or training (police, military, etc.) people see what they expect to see, and a gun on the ground doesn't fall into their normal patterns. If you don't do something to draw attention to yourself and you act quickly to fix the problem, there's an excellent chance no one will pick up on it.

That was the last time I used that carry method. I still make mistakes, but I try never to make the more memorable ones twice when so many new and creative ones remain available.

For those who mentioned a problem with a holster working its way out with the gun inside, those are almost always belt fastener issues - usually a cheap metal clip like the one on Uncle Mike's clip on holsters that easily becomes disengaged from the belt with a little pressure. This system is also vulnerable to having the holster come out with the gun when you draw it when needed most. Don't ask how I know this.

Full belt loops prevent this problem. Well designed clips that grab solidly onto the belt and lock tightly with a ridge under the lower belt edge to prevent movement (like those on the crossbreed or comp tac holsters) are also a good solution.

One possibility there is to go to a cross-body purse like the Coronado Crossbody Satchel. Not cheap, but if it's made like their vests, it's not going to be easy to break the strap to get it away from her. A smaller (and unisex) option would be the Cross Carry Bag.

Shouldn't that be the "Cross-dressing Carry Bag"?

One of the first times I carried (this was in Bass Pro Shops) after getting the permit I got to the top of the stairs and suddenly realized I could feel the grip of the gun much higher on my side than I should have (was carrying IWB). The gun had been pushed up by the body action of climbing the stairs and I had a serious moment of panic, felt like it was just hanging there. I clamped my elbow down on the gun and pinned it against my body while making a beeline for the men's room. Headed straight into a stall and managed to fix things, but that was the last time I ever used that holster. Learned then and there not to go cheap on a carry holster.
