But to get back on topic -

Isn't the premise of the article an anology told be a Vietnam vet? I can agree that we're armed sheep that refuse to be victims....sure. But I think the illustration from a military (vs civilian) perspective totally works.

I think you can apply his points into a the "civilian" arena and make a good case for arming yourself - which is what I the txinvestigator is doing.

Quite honestly, I think the point has been made that some of you don't like the analogy - for whatever reason. That's fine. I must ask though, what is it, besides pride, that drives people to tear into a post with such fury and analyze every little point made by a SIMPLE ILLUSTRATION? I think such efforts would be better spent contacting Reps and being as meticuluous with thier voting habbits and platforms, as we are, at times, with each others posts.

It is written: "That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand... Know you not this parable? and how then will you know any parables? "

Analogies (parables) are great teachers.

EDIT:
I liked the story, but I wouldn't apply it to me at all. It'd glorify why I carry a gun, and honestly, it didn't apply.

I carry a gun to protect myself, and my loved ones. Not to be a "hero"

txinvestigator, Great story. Personally, it was very motivational for me to get back into the strict practice routine I once had. Thanks.

Nitrogen, I have to respectfully disagree. I think some people might feel "superior" to those who don't carry, but I don't think most of us CHL's do.

In WW2, the Jews just sat back and "let it happen" and, with the exception of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, thought appeasement was the way to go. Now, I'm not going to intervene to save a third party until I have made sure that I understand the situation. Don't want to interfere with an undercover/off-duty LEO doing his job. Even then I don't want to be a hero, but I'm of the opinion that letting predators victimize my neighbor may some day enable them to victimize me and my family too.

My 2 cents...

Great post Txinvestigator! It should be a sticky so it won't get lost in the archives. ;-)

This silly, liberal "guest" ,orc4hire, should go back to watching Oprah or Bevis & Butthead. This post was a little over his/her head.

Dave Grossman is NOT well respected in the gun community.

He is anti-gun, anti-CHL.

Notice that he only refers to the warriors/sheep-dogs and military or LEO. Not once does he include CHL's/non-LEO/civilians.

I like this article and share it with my students. I especially like to ask the to go 'Baaaa'.

If you are warrior who is legally authorized to carry a weapon and you step outside without that weapon, then you become a sheep, pretending that the bad man will not come today. No one can be "on" 24/7, for a lifetime. Everyone needs down time. But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself... "Baa."

I believe the above would include CHL even if unintentional.
