Street Sweeper

Post by Chickenman »

I KNOW I DON'T NEED THIS---BUT someone I have known for several years just called me and said that things were not going well. He had a sweeper to sell and wanted $700.00 for it. Gunbroker has three listed low $1600. to $1800. This is a class three weapon correct? Transfer must take place through Class 3 FFL correct?

I don't know anything about them except Collector's in Houston told me there are 2 models/versions one better than the other. Any information on this. Any Class3s out there I can ask some questions of?

The Armsel Stirker, and the American variant, the Cobray Street Sweeper, are Class 3 weapons. Here is some more info http://www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=Ar ... d_variants" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Not sure of the valuer on them though. If you are looking to start into class III collecting, be prepared for a lot of time on paperwork and quite a few $$$ just to be able to purchase the weapon.

They are considered "destructive devices" by BATFE and require a $200.00 tax to be paid to be transferred.

If the gun is in state then there is no need to use a "Class III" dealer, though many people do. BATFE Form 4, with the tax payment, is filed with fingerprints, a picture and CLEO sign off is required. A trust or corporation does not need the have the fingerprints, pics, or CLEO sign off.

If the gun is coming in from out of state then you will need to have the gun transferred to a Class III dealer. If it is currently with a Class III dealer out of state it will transfer tax exempt (Form 3) to the Class III dealer in Texas. As soon as the in state Class III dealer has possession the Form 4, tax paid, can be filed and then when approved you can take possession of the weapon.

If it is coming from an individual from out of state the first transfer to your dealer will be on a Form 4 and tax paid. This increases the price another $200.00.

From a personal point of view, I don't think there is enough of a "cool factor" to spend that much money for one.
