George R. Brown...This Weekends Activities are Double Good!

#1

Post by tex45acp »

This weekend there will be two interesting activities at the GRB. The Hunters Expo (Sponsored by the Texas Trophy Hunters) and the High Caliber Gun Show right next door. I'll be there Sunday with both sons and best friend. I make the Expo every year but the gunshow has never been in the same place on the same day before....at least not that I can remember. I am really looking forward to a full day of male bonding with sons and friend and hopefully some really good deals at the gunshow.

Anybody else from the forum headin that way Sunday??? If so I'll hopefully see ya there!!!

I'll probably be there on Saturday morning. You can spot me by the small trail of drool going from table to table looking at things that I can't afford.
The last train out of any station will not be filled with nice people.

Remember Newton and Azrak.

I haven't been to a gun show since April or May. I'm working on the house this weekend with dh. I may call Daddy and see if he wants to go to one this fall. (Daddy's always game for a gun show.)
(I've also been a bit strapped for cash, and can count on seeing something I want at the very moment I can't buy it.) I do like to pick up ammo while at gun shows; it tends to run cheaper there.
"If a man breaks in your house, he ain't there for iced tea." Mom & Dad.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

gun show thoughts and questions

#7

Post by pdouglas »

I have only been to a couple gun shows so when I went to the Pasadena show last weekend I was a little disappointed. I’m not sure what I expected, but it wasn’t it. No one had hand guns with the crimson trace laser grips, just one of the items I’m looking for. Also the prices for the guns didn’t seem like it was a deal. I thought you could get good deals at the shows.

So for the folks that have gone to them for many years, do you get good deals there? I have a Beretta Mini-Cougar 8000 9mm – I was hoping to find some magazines, magazine spacers, ammo, holster(s) for it and maybe a new handgun or two.

If I buy a gun or two (hand gun) I just need my TDL, correct and money (I know – that is the sticky part – everyone wants the money)? This may seem like a stupid question, but is there a waiting period and if so, how do you get the gun? I thought there was not a wait at gun shows, but I wanted to double check.

I have just gotten into shooting again and am waiting for my CHL – finally it says process application, so maybe I’ll get it this month :banghead: . So I don’t know if I should buy any handguns until I carry for a month or two to see what I like about my Beretta and if there is anything I don’t like so I can change when I buy another one. The handguns I’m looking at all have laser grips – S&W 410S .40 a Kimber Ultra Carry II .45. I’m not sure if I buy two if they will both have laser, but I know I want one to have the laser grips. I’ve heard some good things about them and want to try them out and of course they don’t make them for my Beretta. Are there any personal thoughts on the S&W or Kimber that I’m considering purchasing?

So at the shows, do you pay what the tag says or do you negotiate down? If you take cash will they go lower? Do you pay tax at the show?

Sorry for the long post and added questions – I’ll be there on one of the days, probably Sunday.

Yes, you can if you know what things are worth. I generally wait until Sunday afternoon....the sellers are usually willing to make some real deals by then.

We (Casey family) went to the Pasadena show. Based on the few things that I know the prices of, if you pay the asking price, you're nuts.

I think you'll do better if you have green cash money as opposed to a credit card.

Most of the dealers seem to be FFLs. They charge Texas sales tax.

There's no generally no waiting period in Texas. The FBI may put a hold on your NICS check if you are unfortunate enough to be confused with a disqualified person.

Yes it is posted 30.06.

You can take your gun in - but you have to have it unloaded (magazine in pocket) and then present it to the table at registration for them to put an orange tie wrap through it so it is disabled.

What can you do...

Have fun!

Well we just got back from both the gunshow and the Hunters Extravaganza. I enjoyed the gunshow much more. Found lots of great deals but only left with a new Don Hume Holster for my 3" SP-101 and a Don Hume Belt.
