Reader's Digest

#1

Post by catwoman »

I was standing in line at the grocery store yesterday when the latest issue of Reader's Digest caught my eye. Cover is red, guy all in black is pointing a semiauto at me, bright yellow letters read "don't be a victim." Had to bring it home, check it out, see if there was something that might come in handy someday. The eight-page article has four lines concerning firearms; I quote, "By the way, if you're thinking of getting a gun for protection, make sure you really know how to handle one." Gee, most of us never thought of that...
Being a girl, however, the part that really had me rofl deals with attempted rape...I know, definitely not a laughing matter; but wait! one of the recommendations was, (again I quote) "Resist passively with body language: Keep your legs together and arms crossed to give him subtle cues of opposition." How 'bout I just say "not tonight, honey, I have a headache"? Granted, it's been a while since I could be considered a tasty morsel, but as I recall, "subtle cues of oppostion" weren't always recognized as such, and the occasional sharp word or thump upside the head was required. Do these folks just not have a clue? :headscratch

Last I checked, most rapists don't respond well to "passive resistance" or "body language". That is, unless your body language says "Stop right there or I will blow you away with my fully loaded Glock 19!"

I thought that psychologists had decided that those subtle -cues of opposition was what a typical Rapist thrived on? It is what gives them their actual thrill.
