On a total side issue...does anyone know why Academy will only turn over a firearm to the purchaser when they get outside of the building?

Same with Cabelas and Bass Pro. I tend to give my gun buying business to smaller gun stores, so it is never really an issue for me.

I have to laugh as I have bought lots of ammo at the Academy in Webster and a couple of guns recently. Ammo, I just took to the register. The guns they walked it to the register, then they copy the receipt for their files and hand me the gun OUTSIDE of the OUTSIDE door.... with a smile and all the time I am carrying. Different stores many times interpret their own internal policies differently. I suspect the managers of each store take the corporate policy and apply their own level of comfort of responsibility and act out the levels we each have noticed.

That happened to me recently. I bought a .22 Marlin rifle at Academy. Gave them my CHL so that I would not have to go through the BG check and was carrying at the time. The lady who sold me the gun had to carry the rifle all the way to the front door at gave me the rifle outside the door. She knew I was carrying, but still had to carry the rifle outside. I was laughing my ass off.

I've bought in the Webster store and they escorted me all the to the car. Service with a smile.

That's funny. They drove me home and cooked my dinner.

It's been a few years (3-4), but when I got my Henry at Bass Pro I paid at the counter in the back and then just walked through the store with it in the box and a bag taped over one end of the box.

I can picture that. A little bag taped over the end, just so the door guy doesn't stop you to make sure you paid for it. At the local Kroger that I patronize, they put little stickers on the things that they don't bag.

the last couple of times i purchased ammo at Academy , i was walked to the register with it .
i guess they may have had issues with theft . maybe people were putting it in their pocket before
getting to the register .

At my local Academy, the clerk explained to me that there was no need to have a store employee walk ammo purchases less than $50. Over $50, yes.

No, no, no...that litte bag is like a trigger lock, it stops you from firing the gun in the store doesn't it? Like WalMart stapling the carrier bag with the ammo in, obviously that is so you have to go home to the tool bench before you can get into it.

The gun counter manager walked me out of Wal-mart last month when I bought my long-desired Ruger Mini-14. This is just another example of a silly corporate policy that has no basis in reason; they're just following the advice of their lawyers. Same as posting a 30.06 sign.

Every Time I get ammo.. it's at LEAST $100... most times more.. lol

the academy in brownsville just hands you the ammo and off you go to the registar.....guns they just take it to the cashier....

I took my black powder Navy Colt (unloaded of course) to Academy to get a holster for it. I went the the front desk to let them know what I was doing. They called someone the the desk and I had to give him the pistol. We walked back to the holsters, he gave the pistol to me, I tried it in several holsters and found one I liked. Handed it back to the guy, then we went to the register, I paid for the holster and he handed the pistol to me outside the door.

Yes, I was carrying the whole time. Just smiled to myself.

I wonder how much they pay? I'll be their dedicated gun/ammo runner as needed. Get paid to watch guys test fitting holsters, carrying ammo and guns to the register and out the door, getting an employee discount.......

Be my luck they would make me work in the athletic sock area.....
