Second body found in three months

#1

Post by john L »

Me being new here, you guys don't know that I work for an oil company in Texas as an oil and gas well production tech. It's great work, the pay is good and we are out in the wilderness all the time. The down side is we are alone all day in the middle of nowhere, so we have to be really careful not to get hurt or stuck somewhere that we can't even get phone service. Through the years we have found drug labs, burned out cars, stolen boats, and have equipment stolen from our well locations all the time.

Today we found a guy that had committed suicide at one of our secluded oil well locations. Turns out he had shot and killed his wife this morning and been on the run from LE all day; sure glad we didn't have anyone on that location when he pulled up.

Three months ago we found a young woman that had been beat to death at one of our wells. They finally solved that murder and two guys are behind bars awaiting trial.

Just two more reasons I always have a .40 cal strapped on my side; and some just think I'm paranoid.

If possible I would upgrade to a truck rife too. Can't be too safe when you're all alone.

Does your company allow firearms on their sites?

I personally don't worry about what other people think if they know I carry, and that list is VERY small...

Around here you would not be considered paranoid, you would be considered prepared...And you would be in good company...

I worked for many years in remote locations, often by myself and before the days of cell phones. One year in the oilfield building locations. A gun is a handy thing to have around.

On the subject of a 'truck rifle'; are there any gun racks/truck mountable racks that are locking? I'd surely enjoy being able to carry my shotgun and .30-30 with me without worrying about them.
Thanks

(I've googled it, but my google-fu is poor)

I agree with you and believe I would stay armed as well.

What's the saying: I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy!

And that's if you could get a cell phone signal to call one! :txflag:

Seburiel,

I don't know of any of the more traditional type of truck gun racks that are lockable, but there are a few that can be made that way. Pro-Guard and Setina make them for police vehicles. You can also check Galls and GT Distributors for racks that they sell (probably both Setina and Pro-Guard and others).

The best ones for police use electric locks and have a push button release that works only while the engine is running. Others use handcuff key locks, which are not really secure (too many like keys) and there are a few with regular tumbler locks. The problem may be getting the rack to fit your rifle/shotgun. Many police ones are make and model specific.

And on the not police type of carriers, the one I like best for a truck is the seat cover with the pocket across the front or back to hold the weapons. Not locking, but hiding is almost as good a security system.
