Incredible! Congrats rob845, AGENT-X and Texanproud! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

DPS really must have been working overtime since last Friday! A LOT of people's status changed to active. I'm happy for all of you all.

They really are! And G'mornin' to ya! :tiphat:

Just trying to take a mental tally of how many people's have gone to active status since last Friday....about 20 perhaps? Maybe a little less but not by much....could be more.

It does make sense. Maybe the new procedures and/or additional staffing has something to do with it. I think it's getting the numbers up....what ever it takes, to get as many people pushed through as possible by midnight Monday because that's when the year's reporting period ends for licenses issued(and the fiscal year ends for the State as well).

Good question! If the rumors are true about additional staffing( which I fully believe), then those are temp jobs, and I have to assume they might go away. If that happens then probably so.

Secondly, the rumor about background checks done at HQ instead of the county level are true, then that will GREATLY speed up the background check process. NOTE: That may be a totally untrue rumor. I just don't know. Does anyone know for sure, and the details?

Thirdly, are the levels of applications coming into HQ still at the elevated levels we saw in the Jan-April time frame, as reported in a different thread back around the middle of August?(it was a link to a newspaper article reporting monthy numbers) My personal opinion is that the levels of new apps ARE coming down. But that's only speculation on my part. Who knows? I wish there was monthly reporting on new apps and renewals. I asked that question before, and everyone seems to think that DPS publishes those figures annually ONLY. *sigh* Makes it very difficult to try to figure out what's going on.

To wrap it up to answer your original question, IF the levels are decling(in apps received at HQ), AND the processing of apps are streamlined, then: IMHO, yes I believe it will slow back down, BUT not at the super slow levels of the past year.

I'm still waiting - 112 days and counting. Is Bexar county having problems? It's the only county I've lived in since I moved to TX.

I see there was some activity with DPS over the last several days. I'm going on 117 days and nothing. No offense to the folks waiting in the bigger counties with historically a longer waiting time frame, but I'm in a smaller county and I swear they must not have anyone working the apllications... I'll just keep waiting... and will make a follow-up call again on Friday...

05/02/2009 - CHL class completed
05/06/2009 - Mailed application to DPS
05/08/2009 - Return Receipt received from DPS
06/19/2009 - PIN received from DPS
08/23/2009 - Email sent to DPS requesting status
08/27/2009 - Called and spoke with DPS, application complete, but tech is still reviewing background check...
09/01/2009 - 117 days and waiting
XX/XX/2009 - DPS email reply/response
XX/XX/2009 - Application Approved
XX/XX/2009 - Plastic in Hand

I just got a call from DPS to say that my license was printed and they're just waiting to receive it back from manufacturing. Said I should have it in hand no later than 10-14 days from today. A couple minutes later I got a call from Sen. Shapiro's office to say the same thing. :woohoo
