What to give Game Warden?

When the Game Warden asks to see your hunting license

Is he asking for ID and should you provide your CHL?

What if he is a Federal Game Warden?

A hunting license is not ID. It is just a licence.
I think it would be good manners to show the CHL anyway.

I agree with liberty on this. I've only been checked once, in recent years, by a game warden and when I handed him both the Hunting License and Driver's License, he only took the Hunting license and said he didn't need the driver's license. Wasn't carrying on me at the time so I didn't offer the CHL.

Many times, though, I carry a pistol in my shell bag and probably would show him the CHL if checked. You know he's going to look at your shells  when you are hunting water fowl.

Try hunting at night more, you'll run into the game warden a lot less

Hello tomneal.....As per the TDPS CHL handbook page #24, GC #411.205...if you have a handgun on or about your person when a LEO ask for ID, show both drivers license and CHL. Game Wardens ARE LEO's. Take Care

I asked this to a Game Warden while at a fuel stop. His answer made sence to me but was not what I would call a "According to the law legal answer." He said, "if we are on the lake or afield doing liscense checks & ask for all liscenses to be held up & shown, we don't want to fool w/ anything else." If we stop you on the highway, count your fish, check your ducks, dove, quail, deer....if we find a fineable infraction & ask for Other ID to match liscense then show CHL and declare arm."
My decision from that conversation is: If they are on a drive by liscense check of multiple hunters (Idon't fish or have a boat) I will show the liscense & go on. If it is a personal incounter in the field & am asked for liscense I will also tell them I have a CHL & am armed concealed.

I had a federal game warden ask for my hunting license

durring the conversation he stated that the CHL had to be shown because the hunting license is "Id".

I consider a hunting license more of a receipt than an "Id".

For all you LEO's out there:
You have an interaction with a guy on the street.
You give him the TV line:
"Let's see some Id!"
He hands you a hunting license and nothing else...
Would that be good enough for you?

I guess its another "scratching my head" topic here...

Your out hunting...(I am excluding the bow hunting crowd for clarification)...

A Game Warden intercepts you...

He/She asked for ID, and your hunting tags/licence etc etc...

The mere fact that you are out there "armed" is almost a moot point don't you think?

But...

I do believe it would be acceptable and respectful of the intent of the law to identify your "other" capability (i.e.: CHL) to that commissioned law enforcement officer...

Fishing is more my fortay, and if I'm out on the water, I certainly don't leave it in the truck all day, so if I am hailed to "heave to", they will know when I am asked to produce the papers...So be it...

Lake Fork is a pretty big lake, and I'm afraid of pirates!

Works about 99% of the time...

This is the reason I decided on my approach. If they are driving by, not interacting w/ me personally, show them what they ask for. If it becomes personal tell immediately. I wonder if they know what is required or if each one has the mindset of "this is what I want." They already know every hunter they talk to is armed. Therefore most dont worry about an unseen pistol until it is time to search.
