The FAST/L1 offices can do both printing on a card or electronic transmission depending on what the requesting agency wants. For CHL it gets printed on the standard fingerprint card. I also recently had to use FAST for a different state agency and they electronically submitted the fingerprints.

Perfect.... :mad5
You can call them, like, right now, and see why, so you can have it ready to send immediately after you get the letter.

Reading your sig, I'm going to take a wild guess and say you applied for the 1/2 price discount for military?
Did you send them your DD-214 that says 'Honorable' as the type of discharge at the bottom, and/or a copy of your DD-256 Certificate?

I sent the DD-214 that didn't have the Type of discharge on it, That's what they got me on..
Howdy...actually, I'm currently active guard/reserve on title 10 orders, so I qualified for $0 state fee for active duty. I included a current copy of my LES and ID card with the package. Looking at my copy of the application, I see where I left a gap in employment from Nov 08 to the present. I applied online last year and got the preprinted app back from DPS, but didn't take the class and submit the paperwork until June of this year. I neglected to make the correction on the app to reflect that I was still and in fact employed by the Texas Air National Guard.
Got my letter today and I neglected to put my place of birth on one of the fingerprint cards. Live and learn I guess. I'm just glad it wasn't something worse! :banghead:
Checked my status this morning and I'm finally showing "Processing Application". So now the clock starts running. Maybe I'll get my plastic for Christmas!

My wife took her class on June 20, 2009 and I mailed the app for her on June 22. She applied and paid the DPS online. On August 6, she got a letter saying the fingerprints had been rejected. I e-mailed her instructor and he said just about everyone from that class had their fingerprints rejected. The guy that does the fingerprints lives just a few minutes away from us and he came over last evening and did her prints again. I put them back in the mail this morning (with delivery notice). The fingerprint guy said he has been doing CHL prints since 1996 and had less than 1% rejected until now.

I was surprised, however, that it has only taken about 5 weeks to get prints rejected. I exepcted that if this were to happen, it would have been in September. Maybe they are getting quicker at DPS.

A question though, guys or ladies that applied online have said that the PIN number was in the packet that DPS sends back. Where is the PIN in the packet? My wife says there wasn't a PIN in the packet, I say that there should have been.

Mine was on the first page of the original application(p.1 of 5) , 3 lines below your address. Right below my name and address:

"The information below contains the data you submitted using the Concealed Hangun License Web Application Process.

Your personal identification number(PIN) is: _ _ _ _ "

Thanks Joe. It may have been on the application and we never saw it. I may have the wife send an e-mail to the DPS and see if she can get it that way.

On Saturday, August 15th, I received a large envelope from DPS. It contained one of my fingerprint cards along with a letter. It stated that I had not completely filled out the P.O.B. portion. This letter was dated July 22nd. So from the time they wrote the letter until I got to me is about a MONTH. Things really ripping along in Austin.

Anyway, this TINY P.O.B. box is about 3/8's x 3/8's, just to the right side of the box asking for the state of your drivers license, and the same size. As I was BORN in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this box was WAY to small.

After about 30 minutes on hold this morning, I was told to simply put "TN" in this box, which is post office speak for Tennessee.

I will mail it back this morning, and hope to does not take another month for it to get to Austin.

The one thing I learned is that they stamp and date their received date on the back of the fingerprint card. On the front, they handwrite you application number at the top just beside the state seal.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

Aarrrrgggghhhhh! That's the ONLY thing I didn't put my application number on.....the finger print cards! Every other piece of paper in the envelope to DPS did. I wished I'd had known. I hope someone down there is attentive enough to put it on there.

Thanks Stu, I now know.

There is a lot of confusion regarding 'NUMBERS' for the CHL. Maybe this will help....

Some of the OLD yellow applications had a preprinted number on them. These numbers are NOT USED for anything. Originally they planned to use them, but decided not to. With so many applications, and so many instructor having packets, there were large gaps in the listing of these numbers. Some instructors could take up to a year to use their supply of applications. This would leave gaps in this numbering system. Many people asked for packets, but never completed them. More gaps. Many people made errors on their applications, tossed them away, got a new application. More gaps.

Applications are no longer prenumbered.

When DPS receives a packet, a number is assigned. This number is shown on the letter you will receive from them that informs you of your PIN number.

When you go online to check the status of your application, the PIN number is used. The PIN number is used for their internal tracking, the actual application number MAY be the number assigned to your license. Stress MAY. If anyone still has their original letter, is the application number the number on your plastic?
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

so, just called *again* for an update.

The gentleman with the patient voice told me that they "just received my background check last week" and that I should be off to the printers soon and should receive my license in 2-3 weeks.

Well, I find this odd, as I was told this same line about a month ago.

Yay.

I think I might opt for a non-resident license in another state. I almost hate the fact that my money is going to this overly slow and inefficient state agency.

And to think I thought the government in NY was wasteful and slow...man.

Mailed my renewal to DPS on 6-8-2009
They received it on 6-10-2009.
I received my renewed license on 8-11-2009.

Really strange it takes 2 months for something this easy. This was my 2nd renewal (3rd license).

The guy who has done my finger prints for years says that the state is rapidly "preferring" computerized prints. They make it so hard to exercise a basic right.
