If you're not PLEASE DON'T do it.

You can manufacture a short barrel shotgun BUT you MUST have an approved form 1 in your possession BEFORE beginning the work. So, get a form 1 (which REQUIRES CLEO signature) approved and THEN saw it down. Or, get a SOT (Special Occupation Tax) and make all the NFA goodies you want.

PLEASE, PLEASE pretty please with sugar on top DON'T make/manufacture/jury-rig a NFA item without knowing what you need to do first in order to do it legally. The risks just don't balance with the "reward."

OK, I really will shut up now.

To the OP, get a different holster or a cooler, either will solve your problem, I think.

I have the same situation. My solution (use at your own risk) is to tuck it into the seam between my seat and the center (split bench truck seat) seat, right next to my thigh, and drive home with it there. I have a small towel in case it is needed to cover it, and I can punch it down to the floor in a second if I get pulled over. No one is ever going to see it in my F-150 4x4 from the car next to me at a light...and it is RIGHT THERE if I need it.

So I live slightly dangerously because the very back of it shows from the holster, but I don't get burned, and it is warm but comfortable to be tucked into my waistband when I get out at home.

Or if your like me and like to make things difficult.... Get a small cooler, and a peltier cooler.. Mount the peltier in the cooler, grab a micro controller of your choice, bang out a quick code to keep the gun temperature around 80 degree's ( it can heat, and cool ).. Plug it into a 12 volt power source and your done I like to make things difficult, although I dont have the need for anything like that, if I did I'd rig something like that up... If there was a demand for it, I could build a few ( but it wouldnt be cheap )...

A gel pack and a cooler is a lot simpler to do...

A buddy of mine simply tucks it into his 'brief case' and brings it into work.

His theory is that as long as nobody sees it you will be fine. Of course it helps that we have more CHL holders and gun owners than we have 'regular' people work in our office.

I am sure the employers wouldn't like it if they found out, but then they wouldn't like people taking batteries and pencils either

Don't laugh. Bayouh makes a good point. I was going to suggest a small cooler, the kind big enough for 2 6-packs of soda, and one of those "gel freeze" things. The self contained gel types you throw in the freezer and freeze it overnight. It may condensate, so wrap the gel freeze bag in a hand towel, THEN put it in a 1 gal. zip lock bag(room temp). But the cooler if it's of good quality might insulate the contents well enough to not need the gel freeze bag.

Just a thought.

I have thought about doing something like this just because it can get really hot in car's. Im not sure what the cook off temp is for rounds but I dont want to press my luck. I can just imagin sitting in my truck with little beams of light coming from the top!!

I was thinking about this driving home from work today...

I think the gel pack+cooler thing is asking for trouble with moisture condensing in the internals of your gun. Even stainless+polymer pistols have carbon steel springs and linkages internally.

Just my 2 cents worth...
