I'm sure I'll get a phone call saying that I haven't actually been denied before I have to go over the finer points of the law with them

Received a call from Senator Mike Jackson's office today. I told them of my situation (103 days, law enforcement officer, Galveston County, blah, blah), The lady gave me her email address, and asked me to send her my ap# and all that stuff, so I did so. Well, we will see. She was very nice, and seemed helpful. I also complained about the April applicants calling their Senator's and jumping ahead of me from March. If you are an April applicant and reading this, sorry, but it just isn't fair.

You're working on day 90 soon ;)
By law, The clock starts as soon as they recieve the packet in the mail, not when it goes to 'Processing Application'. It's also not 'business days'. It's days-days. Counting Saturday, Sunday, and every Holiday.
IANAL, YMMV, ITEOTWAWKI and all that.

I sent letters (US Mail) to:
Texas State Senator
Senate District 4--Senator Tommy Williams
District Address: P. O. Box 8069
The Woodlands TX 77387
Phone: (281) 364-9426
Texas State Representative
House District 127--Representative Joe Crabb
District Address: 1110 Kingwood Drive, #200
Kingwood TX 77339
Phone: (281) 359-1270
FYI: Conventional wisdom says "Email is nice, but a real stamped letter works wonders." Humph...I WROTE these men and have not heard ANYTHING for the past week & a half (2 weeks on Wednesday). All y'all that emailed got immediate feedback. I understand issues with the special session, etc., and that (hopefully) many, many people are writing, calling and emailing to complain. But a simple "We got your letter and are looking into it" email or call would have been nice.

Re: Harris, Galveston & Brazoria Co's: Email your state reps!
I almost hate to admit this, but since I created this thread and threw a hissy fit, I need to see it through.
I had two phone calls this morning, one from the DPS handgun license office and one from Senator Williams office, both imforning me that my application has been completed and I should be receiving plastic in the next two weeks.
Someone - I forget if it was on this thread, or another one where I was busy whining - chided me for being impatient with the process, as he had been waiting since February w/out a fingerprint re-do. To you, and to anyone else that my application "cut" in line in front of, I offer my sincere apologies. Humble pie is for supper...
I had also complained about two weeks and not hearing anything from the senator or representative. Again, humble pie. The phone call was quite polite and addressed all three points I requested in my initial letter.
In short, the victory is bittersweet because of my impatience.
A piece of good news. Senator Williams' office said that they have gotten a flood of contacts about this issue in the past couple months. As a result, pressure forced DPS to increase its staff in the Harris County office (I'm sorry...I didn't ask about Brazoria or Galveston) and is processing apps as fast as they can. Our respectful complaints have caused the bureaucrats to move it up a notch. Since I wrote to complain, I also am writing to thank the Senator for his help and will drop the letter off on the way home.

Dear Senator Williams:
On July 1, I wrote your office expressing my displeasure at the speed – or, more accurately, the lack thereof - with which the Texas Department of Public Safety is processing applications in Harris County. This included mine.
This morning I received two phone calls, one from the DPS handgun office in Austin and one from your own office, informing me that my application had been pushed through the log-jam. It is estimated that I will have my concealed handgun license in the next two weeks or so. I sincerely thank you for your assistance in this matter.
In addition, I had also requested that you urge DPS to expedite the applications of others in Harris County who also have been waiting months for their paperwork to be processed. Your staff informed me that you have had many contacts on this very issue. Partly due to your urging, DPS is taking steps to clear the back-log and, hopefully, the process will be less trying for others.
Finally, I urged you to continue supporting Second Amendment rights in the State of Texas. Again, your staff informed me that you have been and will continue to be a strong proponent for gun owners and responsible firearm ownership in the State.
I appreciate the help you have given me, and I am grateful for what you do for our area of Texas.
Yours,
Q

This is exactly how the system should work if enough people respectfully complain.Senator Williams' office said that they have gotten a flood of contacts about this issue in the past couple months. As a result, pressure forced DPS to increase its staff in the Harris County office (I'm sorry...I didn't ask about Brazoria or Galveston)
Bureaucracies don't do a lot of favors for patient people.
Brazoria and Galveston counties should not be such big bottlenecks. Each has about 1/10th or less the population of Harris (the most populous county in Texas).

Someone provided the address above where you canl look up your reps: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/mnuAddress.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Probably Larry Taylor and Mike Jackson in your case, but check for sure. The district boundaries are insane.

Let's face it folks. We are a minority. The legislature is never going to represent our interests over the majority. As long as we continue to look only to the legislature for recognition and protection of our rights we will never have our rights recognized by the state of Texas. What we have now is the executive branch of the government blatantly denying our rights in violation of state law. If we want to act collectively, then as a minority, we need to collectively take our grievance to the judicial branch of the government. Our legislators ignored us last session, and they will continue to ignore us indefinitely until we fight to have our rights recognized in court.

I wrote and emailed Mike Jackson and Ken Legler. Mike Jackson has ignored both my missives. Ken Legler had an assistant email me but no action has occured and no further reply has happened. I also contacted my Harris County Commissioner with nary a reply. I will be at 180 days come August 25. I'm about ready to try to hire a lawyer and demand a court date from DPS.
