DPS just called me and apologized for the delay. They get until July 10th for the application to be complete or I get on the horn again. I am not waiting 120 days for this license.

Kevin read my post regarding why it takes so long. I addressed the problem to Harris County but regardless its the same process all over. Harris is just a bigger disaster than every other area in the State. Doesnt mean your area is not a disaster it just doesnt compare to Harris.

My wife received her CHL in the mail today!!! She submitted her application about 1.5 weeks after I sent mine in. I'm still waiting. We've lived in Tarrant county for 3 years and in FL for the 2 years before that.

She has never checked her status online so maybe that's the secret :-)

Okay USA1 got a new challenge for you. If you have not already called your state rep dont do it. I called mine and they called DPS and DPS called me apologizing.

So for the sake of an experiment since we have the exact same dates lets see who gets it faster. Neither of us has been clogged up by mistakes or missing information thus far so right now its a perfect experiment.

Now by all means I dont want to leave you out and please call if you feel the need, but for the sake of an experiement and to put to bed the rumor that calling the reps does or doesnt work let me know if your in.

It will be a good test to see if it really matters.

If you have already called them then the experiment wont work.

texas1234 ,
i have'nt called or e-mailed yet. sounds like an interesting experiment , but you would be the winner if your calls work.
im going to hold off with my calls for now , but i cant promise for how long . :rules:

i think if i hit 100 days ,i might break down and give them a little ringy dingy
but , if you get "approved " before that , i will follow your lead :tiphat:

USA1 100 days is perfect. If we both go to 100 days rest assured I will be back on the phone and the experiment is off.

And I will be calling again. :bigmouth

I sincerely wish you the best of luck with that one. I have been very proactive with staying on top of the status. Several calls and emails to Rep. Fletcher's office. Several calls to Sen Patrick's office. Weekly calls to DPS to check on the status (they started 'expediting' completion around mid April). Emails and calls to Jan Coffey and Heather Brummett at DPS. I started fairly early so there would be no way I was one of those guys at 120+ days.

Yet, here I am at 134 days this morning and I have not yet made my weekly call to DPS but full well expect to hear that they are still waiting on my background check from Harris County.

Just FYI... I am running a similar experiment to you and usa1 in my own house. DPS received my application materials on Feb 12th (no issues with the paperwork and nothing in my background to cause a delay). DPS received my wife's application on March 13th (no issues). I have made as many contacts as one could reasonbly make but I have not made a single inquiry on my wife's (she is not that obsessed about getting the CHL so doesn't seem to care when it comes). We will see how the contacts impact the timeline in our household but she is at 110 days and no apparent progress yet.

Sorry to rain on the hopes of those in Harris County hoping it will get better soon but they have a massive problem and they are doing very little to fix it.
Harris County (no issues w/paperwork)
02/08/09 CHL class
02/12/09 paperwork received
03/09/09 PIN & 'Processing Application'
06/26/09 BC finally returned (Day 134)
07/05/09 Application Completed - license issued or certificate active (Day 143)
07/10/09 plastic in hand (Day 149 from rececipt)

I sent my wife's application in on 4/1, status changed to "Processing Application" on 5/18, she received plastic on 6/19. Harris County wasn't involved in her application.

Since I have to get a bg check from Harris County, I'm not expecting to see anything until late August at the very earliest.

When a private company - one charged with making a profit - runs into a backlog like this, they ramp up production so that they can bring in more cash. Your state government has your cash already, and it's not like anyone in DPS is going to lose a job for poor service. The frustrating part is that they are taking all the extra income they're getting from the increase in CHL applications and diverting it to other programs. Like other folks have said..... why would anyone want this kind of performance to extend to your health care programs???????
I will add, as a fifth circumstance in the situation of the House of Representatives, restraining them from oppressive measures, that they can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of the society. - J Madison, Federalist #57
