I've been slow to report back... basically because I don't have too much to report. I didn't want to ruffle too many feathers early in the week, but did ask one of the instructors discretely during a break about DPS requesting that we not carry in the course. The situation required me to ask him in front of another student, who pretty much bailed him out, because he was oh so knowledgeable on the CHL laws .Crossfire wrote:This is your assignment, if you choose to accept it... Is that only for 30.06 and they can still give legally valid verbal notice?
When I showed the Trooper the section regarding the government he read and reread it a few times, while the other guy proceeded to inform me of this opinions on the topic. Then another student came up and started talking with the Trooper, allowing him to avoid addressing the question. I should have stuck with it, but felt comfortable from the lack of desire to address the question by a few of the officials to mean that they'd prefer that we not carry, but really couldn't legally do so.
Regarding the course, I really enjoyed every single one of the Troopers who presented, they did a great job of keeping things educational but interesting. I think it would be a huge boost for them to put a few of the DPS employees through the Instructor course and either do a CHL class with DPS employees or a mock CHL class (DPS employees can't be CHL Instructors). I think that this would allow for a person who would be able to fill in all of the issues that slip through the cracks when presenters specialize on a particular topic. Example - the process of certifying your range.
