So, which republicans held our bills back?

Think about this. If they got them out of committee and on the calendar in a timely fashion, they wouldn't have been affected by the 11th hour chubbing.

I know Robert Duncan was one. He held up the Campus Carry bill in committee. I got an email from him stating so. He was also quoted in the Lubbock paper saying he didn't believe that guns on campus would make it safer and therefore wouldn't vote for it. Joe Heflin who is a democrat in the house said the same thing in the same article. They were both rated A+ and A respectively by the NRA.

I want to know about Brian McCall of Plano. IIRC he is big dog of House calendars commitee.

The list is shorter if you count the ones who pushed the bills forward.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Before you organize a political lynch mob you may need to read Charles' post: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 32#p287155" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide." The Monument Builders, Ayn Rand (1962)

Maybe I missed it but nobody except you is talking about lynch mobs.TacShot wrote:Before you organize a political lynch mob you may need to read Charles' post: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 32#p287155" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We're simply discussing our right to vote for people to represent our interests in Austin. That's still our right even post Obama. Maybe we're not a big political force and they made a politically shrewd move by letting our bills die. If that's true, they have nothing to worry about. On the other hand, if they bet on the wrong horse, they should accept the consequences of their mistake.

So you're going to vote for the people who actually did the chubbing and killed a lot of good legislation - the Democrats??? That's pretty much how we got Obama and the current US Congress.

The time to vote against your do-nothing incumbent is during the primary, not the general election.stroo wrote:So you're going to vote for the people who actually did the chubbing and killed a lot of good legislation - the Democrats??? The first time to vote against your do-nothing incumbent is during the primary. Hopefully that works. If not there's always the general election.

Voting for the "opposition" regardless who it is, what is known about them, or without any reasonable expectation that they will not be better on our issue does not help us prepare for 2011. As I noted, no one in Texas is more frustrated than I am, but let's not cut off our noses to spite our faces. As Larry said, the primary is the key.boomerang wrote:The first time to vote against your do-nothing incumbent is during the primary. Hopefully that works. If not there's always the general election.

I'm not proposing knee jerk reactions or voting blindly. But I think actual individual performance has to be the key factor when deciding whether to vote for or against an incumbent.
The party platform is irrelevant. This session proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt for Republicans.

I think I may run a close second with you. I haven't been able to write a civil letter to Duncan or Jones about this yet. Maybe someday soon I will be able to do so.
