My new Kimber...
I have wanted a 1911 for a while and a friend had this one. It is a Kimber Eclipse Target II with Crimson Laser grips. He was having trouble with it jamming and just wanted to sell it. I will shoot it enough this weekend to figure out the problem.

Re: My new Kimber...
Might the problem be with the external extractor? I heard a while back that a lot of Kimbers were haveing fits with the EE, and when replaced with an internal extractor, the problem was fixed.

You should read my article, Kimber Handgun Buyers Beware before you go to the range.
It's a fine quality gun, but they can be very frustrating out of the box if you aren't aware of the break-in process.
I have an Eclipse Ultra II that I got so frustrated with I thought about selling it. Now I'm glad I didn't, because it's become as smooth and dependable as any I've ever shot.
By the way, that's a sweet one. Wish I had those laser grips on mine. Be very careful when you take the slide pin out and make sure it's clear before you go twisting it. I managed to put an elliptical scratch on mine that took an hour of polishing with clay compound to erase...that polished stainless steel scratches easy.

+1 on the external extractor. That was the first thing I noticed when looking at the picture. Hope you can diagnose the problem depending on type of malfunction.UpTheIrons wrote:Might the problem be with the external extractor? Great choice with the Kimber. I like my CDP Pro and have considered the Eclipse Target II since reading about it. It looks very nice. Hope you get it worked out.

Re: My new Kimber...
I shot the Kimber arbout 30 times today with no jams. That was after I completely took it apart and cleaned it. It was very dirty. The laser sight is shooting around 4 inches low, but the adjustment wrench is missing. It is a very small allen wrench, I will either call Crimson Trace and get some or go see Sears. I think the web says it is a .028" wrench. But, I am almost satisfied that is is shooting well. I will take it to the range next week and really put it through its paces to see if it has a problem. I have been told that if the external extractor is the problem Kimber will change the slide out to one with internal extractors.

Re: My new Kimber...
I am sorry to say, I believe that offer was to the original purchaser of the pistols and that replacement program has ended. I could be wrong, but I think this is where it stands now.skennedy wrote:I have been told that if the external extractor is the problem Kimber will change the slide out to one with internal extractors.
Maybe someone else can confirm or rebut this?
