I just bought some Monarch Steel 9mm at Academy in Austin (183 @i-35) at $8.99 for 50; I was kind of reluctant as the last time I tried some, I had several FTEs, but it does beat nothing....they also had a few boxes of CCI in 40 and 45.....Back home last week, the guy behind the counter at Wally World ammo counter told me a similar story as related above - "the warehouse is out of ammo" and he didn't know when any would be coming in....At Academy in Mesquite last week, they were out of 9mm (except the NATO), they did have some CCI in 45 which I bought. The guy there said he gets 4 trucks a week and sometimes they have ammo on them and sometimes they don't....I have yet to see any explanation of what is going on with the ammo supply other than people are "just buying it up"...

I went to the range the other day and rationed the amount of ammo that I took with me. I'm trying to replace what I shot before I go to the range again.

While the "People are just buying it up" makes plenty of sense to me, What is disturbing is that there is no news on any efforts to relieve the shortage with increased supplies. One would have thought that there would be more ammo imported or manufactured to make up for the shortages. The news media isn't talking much.

I thought about this also and came to the conclusion that the ammo manufacturers may have believed the increase in demand would be temporary, so they did very little to add to production capacities.

Your thinking is all wrong. Ammo manufacturers aren't worried about the demand for ammo. They are more concerned with profit.

Suppliers don't increase their production just because there is a shortage. Suppliers are in it to make money and they face many of the same decisions we face. Currently I believe there is a general consensus among gun people that Obama is bad news for when it comes to the 2nd amendment. Whether that be assault weapon bans, ammo taxes, etc. The future outlook is perceived as bleak.

If suppliers think their product will possibly sell at a higher price in the future, there is no incentive for them to increase production.

When 7.62x39 began its last round of price hikes, I found one stock number that Sportsmans Guide had yet to mark up, so I ordered 2000 rds.

Reply to all of their backorder messages and the order will remain open at the original price until shipped.

Well I'll be hanged!!! I just confirmed my order is on the way. 185 per case on the same ammo. Two cases. Wish I had ordered more. They didn't even charge for shipping as this was part of a larger order and had already been charged shipping on the first part of my order. I am impressed. This order was placed just before our country lost it's direction with the Obama debacle. WooHoo....I feel like it is christmas.

I honestly did not expect Sportsmans Guide to honor the price on it. I was waiting for them to tell me the deal was off. I ordered this in the first week or so of November. They delayed the order 5 or 6 times....Sportsmans Guide definitely proved to me they are a stand up company. Something tells me I won't be seeing this price again for awhile.

Wally world at N.Garland Rd @ 190 ( George Bush ) had about 12 boxes of .357 PP in th e WWB , think they were 50 rd boxes for their normal price$27 and change and still have a bunch of boxes of .357 sig nothing else

I have a standing order with Sportsmans Guide for steel cased .223 and 9mm, I think 900 rounds each and for a good price, I've had to email them and tell them I still want it. They say they think around June, I'm in no hurry.

I would have to bet it arrives eventually. Just be sure and reply to those delay emails. I had some of that Federal Eagle 9mm ordered from them too....1000 rounds at 199....but I screwed up and didn't reply to the email they sent asking me if I want to keep waiting. They canceled the order....oh well....it was my fault, so what can I say other than oops?

I only left them with 6 boxes. When I called 2 hours earlier, they said they had 40. I asked them to hold me 20 boxes.

I originally saw this on the 1911 forum --> http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=229097. Apparently some of them did not believe it, and called to confirm. Apparently it's true, they will charge whatever they think the market will bear.

On a side note, three weeks ago on a Sunday morning, I dropped by a Walmart in San Antonio and picked up a 100 pack of WWB 380 for 31 bucks. The shelf was full of 380 and 380 only, but I only needed one box, so I bought one box.
