Does anyone know where in the Houston and surrounding area, they have some in stock. I am looking to buy within two weeks and i want to know if it would be better to order and have it sent to an FFL or find one locally. Thanks in advance for your help.

I was at Fountain Firearms last night and they had a few on the shelf. I did not check prices or any options they had installed. I believe they were used, also I have seen a few at several different Acadamy's local to Sugar Land. But they are there one day and gone the next so i would call before hand. And try SOG Armory and see if they have the ability to build you one if you are set a new one. Good luck...

Unless you find a great deal, I'd order online. The prices online are much better than they are locally here, for better guns as well. Plus you get to avoid paying sales tax. I just put an order in for one, it will probably be several weeks before I see it, but I can wait.

Call Robert at http://www.talonarms.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; at 713-529-2910. We're local, but do not a have a retail shop where you can just stroll in and look at stuff. We had a couple of Colts last I heard.

I just bought a brand new Bushmaster ORC off the shelf of Academy (Pearland)for $999.99 (plus tax of course) the Sunday before last (1/25/09).

They also had an M&P 15A for $1099.99 and had just sold 2 Sig 556's (don't know how much), and a SOCOM on the shelf for $1999.99.

I ordered a Rock River tactical CAR UTE2 from a dealer (Delmark) in Denton. The price was $1,200 after a few options, five magazines, and delivery / handling / dealer fee. I ordered it the day before Thanksgiving and they told me to expect 12 weeks for shipment.

Their prices still haven't gone up, but they are running much further behind. I still don't have my rifle (expecting it in a couple of weeks - I'm giving them 13-14 since part of the 12 went through the holidays). I called Delmark to check on it, and he told me that Rock River now says, "We cannot predict delivery dates for new orders. We are roughly estimating 6-8 months."

I guess that's the give and take. . . a good quality rifle for a reasonable price, but it'll take a while.

I paid 1/2 up front and will pay 1/2 at delivery. I don't know what happens if legislation passes between ordering and delivery. . . I assume the 1/2 down will make it "your previously owned gun" that they just have at their factory??? I don't know.

If you can't locate a new (or used) rifle, try buying the parts and building one. Even at today's inflated rates, building your own will cost you 3/4 of price of buying one already built. Just be sure to buy the lower first, as that is the part with the serial number. Once you have the parts, assembly is literally a matter of 30 minutes or less. You'll be amazed at how simple it is, once you've done it.
