Recommendation on scopes

#1

Post by kalipsocs »

Looking to spend between 300-400 on a scope. Going to be mounted to a 30-06 Savage 110. I have so far had a good experience with my Bushnell so I wouldn't have a problem sticking with them, just maybe moving up to a 3200. Buriss, Nikon, Bushnell have been particularly interesting to me. What are your recommendations?

In a word, Leupold.

I've got three and they've never failed (knock on wood).

I would try shopping at http://www.opticsplanet.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a friend and I both just bought scopes from them at a good price. Their website does not show availability though so you HAVE to call. Take my advice b/c I didn't call and they didn't have what I wanted. I got an email a few days later saying what I wanted was hard to keep on the shelf, which is bull, but I changed my order and they gave my a 5% coupon towards my next purchase. Pm me and I will give you the coupon code if you are interested. I just purchased an inexpensive Barska scope that I am pleased with for the price.

You might check out http://www.samplelist.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for used/refurbished scopes if you're not opposed to that sort of thing. Take note that some scopes maintain the lifetime warranty between owners (I believe Leupold is one of them).

I bought a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 from them before I was awake enough to realize the warranty thing. Was kinda bummed when I received the box and saw it only had a 90 day warranty (if I recall correctly). I turned right around an bought a 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster from them too. :???:

I'm pretty confident the Buckmaster is a good product and will last a long time, and wasn't too concerned with the refurb. warranty.

I second gmckinl, Leupold.
I like their VXII grade scopes. People tell me the VXIII is better but I can't see any difference and all come with Leupolds guarantee.

If it were me, I'd go with Leupold.

Only problem are the leupolds are pricey. would love to have one, but unless i had a really nice CZ 550, I am apprehensive about putting a scope that is worth more than the rifle on it.

Kalipsocs,
You say you want to spend $300 - $400 on a scope but the Leupolds are too pricey.
Go here:
http://www.midwayusa.com/Search/#leupold%20VXII____-_" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or here:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... ISO-8859-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Leupold 3-9X40 $329.
Leupold 3-9X50 $399.

What's the problem?

uuuhhhhh...I don't think it's uncommon to spend more, often a lot more, on optics than on the rifle.

:iagree: There may be better optics out there, but they are going to cost you the equivalent of a new rifle or more to buy. I know a guy that has a Zeise (sp.) on a cheap Remington 710. The scope cost over 1000 bucks. He could have bought three more Remmingtons for what he paid for the scope. Ive shot the rifle, and the difference I could tell between his glass and my Leupolds is that his tended to gather a little more light. Not enough to justify the added expense in my opinion. All mine are 3x9x40s and each one was right at 200 bucks.

You can get a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5x10x40 for around $360. I like Leupolds as much as the next guy, but you won't beat the 4200 in that price range.

Im sure that Bushnell makes some quality scopes, but I bought one for a rifle a few years ago and had nothing but problems with it from the get go. I cant remember which one it was, but it right at 125-150 bucks. The optics were great, in fact, I still have it and use it for a spotter. It just wouldnt keep a zero. After a couple rounds, it would start to drift. Unfortunately, I found that out after it was too late to take it back. I probably got a bad apple, as I know plenty of folks that use them, but for my money, I stick with Leupolds.
