Lubbock's violent crime wave

Glad to know I'm in such good company, of current and former Lubbockites. I did not mean to say that Lubbock is no longer a good city to live in, as Lubbock still has much to offer in education, medicine, music, the arts, and recreation. Lamentably, though, a different mindset may be necessary in order to live here comfortably in this day and age, not unlike a lot of other places. For the optimists whose glass is perpetually "half-full", we might even think of Lubbock as "a target-rich environment."

I really doubt Lubbock is any worse than Lufkin or many other places. We reviewed our church "Threat Response Plan" last Wed & one of the points was to verify the need of one. (Some don't think it is necessary since it can't happen here & expecially if you pray & have faith God will protect you.) Yes even the preacher rolls his eyes at such as that. Since Jan. '04 I have kept a written log of Major violent crime that has happened in places the wife & I go at times of the day that we would be there. No midnight holdups at Shady's Stop & Rob or even the armed bank robery at Hybernia bank at 10:00 one morning because that is not our bank. It don't count. Average between those incidents at the end of this month is one every 15 weeks. This is from murder in Randall's parking lot where we shop some. Christian book store was in the same strip. Good part of town too. Our Bank robbed at gunpoint. Assailent said I have aids & nothing to loose. Those are examples of the rest also. Lubbock has no manoply on violent crime. Thus my signature.

My wife has mentioned your study to me. We believe that your statistics would apply about equally in our part of town. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting with an eighty-seven-year-old lawyer, who was reminiscing about her mother-in-law, and her experiences in ranching in West Texas around the turn of the century. This pioneer lady kept a rifle and shotgun next to her bed, and was well-known to be mean enough to use it. Maybe things haven't changed so much after all.

I attended Texas Tech and live in the Blitzo (Bledsoe) Hall in 1966. I figured going to Vietnam and getting killed would not be as bad, so I enlisted.

we have the meth lab problems here in Amarillo too,
home invasions, carjackings, attempted carjackings, attempted kidnappings, the list goes on and on. I don't know if I notice the news stories more now or if the crime rate is actually going up.
Be prepared, stay safe.

If loose gun laws are good for criminals, why do criminals support gun control?

Zebra, it is not either or. It is a combination of both. Crime is going up & getting worse. You are noticing it more because you are aware. Being aware means you notice what is hapening from the polite children to the home invasion & everything in between. Be watchful. BTW Had any 100 degree days yet?

I don't think we "officially" hit 100 yet here, but we've already had several days in the upper 90s, it won't be long though.....
and yeah, I think you're right about the crime rates/awareness, its also helped convince my wife to get her CHL and some self-defense training. We're taking some classes together and getting her CHL class this month. Something everyone should do.

Yes sir. Both the ladies of my household have theirs. Wife & Mom. I cannot convince the son-in-law. They have been burglarized too. I do not understand it.
