A large percentage of the people who attend this seminar are CHLs. I've decided follow up this seminar with the rest of the CHL renewal material so people can get their renewal out of the way. This 3 hour seminar is a little longer than the time I spend on this subject in 4 hour CHL renewal classes, so the class will be closer to 5 hrs than 4. For seminar attendees that are coming up on renewal, there is no reason to sit through the seminar, then hear much of the same information only a few weeks or months later. The remainder of the CHL rewewal will be on Sunday, Jan. 18th from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.
I know someone will ask, so if you are wondering if you can take a renewal class now, here is the rule on timing. The training certificate you get after you take a renewal class is only good for 6 months. Therefore, you must send in your renewal application no later than 6 months after taking the class. DPS sends out renewal notices 6 months before expiration, so in theory you could take the class up to one year before your CHL expires. That, however, is pushing it way too close! It's up to you how early you take it, but 6 months just doesn't give you enough time to complete the online renewal application and send it in.
I have sent an email to DPS to see how early they will accept a "manual" application using one of the packets Instructors can provide. Using one of my packets instead of applying online may open the window a bit. I'll post the answer.
