What's the proper way to load the +1?

Read your individual firearm's manual. My Beretta TELLS me to load the tube manually and close the slide. Not that the mag thing is bad, just that it isn't necessary.

What kind of Beretta do you have?Morgan wrote:Read your individual firearm's manual. My Beretta TELLS me to load the tube manually and close the slide. Not that the mag thing is bad, just that it isn't necessary.

I have a PX4. Some guys on the Beretta forum said their (other models that I don't recall) had the same recommendation.WildBill wrote:What kind of Beretta do you have?Morgan wrote:Read your individual firearm's manual. your loss. I've explained all that I care to, you can look it up from there.AndyC wrote:Sorry, but that doesn't tell me anything - invoking Clint Smith's name is meaningless without context, so I have no idea what you're talking about. As for real big smiles, I have one right now
whether you do or not, I couldn't care less.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

sure, downplay mechanical function by saying I believe a spring has "mystical function."
I believe that borders on a personal attack.
once again, do what you want, I really no longer care.
the fact remains that a recoil spring has a function. if it "hurt" the gun, then me going to the range certainly wouldn't be conducive to maintaining the longevity of a firearm.
I have heard from experts that say that you should use the "slingshot" method when chambering a round. I have heard the reasons for this. I believe the experts when they explain this theory, and so I try to pass along this friendly advice.
just for shiggles, I baby loaded my Beretta 92FS in the many you described. It would go in to battery, but not always all the way. and on those attempts extraction was rough, and chambering the next round didn't always go smoothly.
I will leave it at that, and of course you'll make another snide comment, to which I will not respond, so have your last word, as it is empty at this point.
enjoy.

My P92 has the same instruction. I mentioned this before earlier in the thread.Morgan wrote:I have a PX4. Re: What's the proper way to load the +1?
The definitive answer: IT DEPENDS...
...on the extractor. Pistols with an internal extractor (like the 1911 and its clones) should NEVER be loaded directly into the tube. You'll damage the extractor. However, pistols with an external extractor (e.g., Berettas) are made for it. The owners manuals for both my Berettas (Model 9000S 9mm and Model 84 .380) give instructions to lock open the slide and load the round directly into the tube, then insert the loaded magazine. I have noticed that the 9000S has trouble going fully into battery when I do it. I allow the slide to go forward a bit, then point the barrel skyward. The round falls partially out of the chamber, then the slide easily moves up into battery, carrying the round with it. The Model 84 just glides shut, no problem at all. Saves my fingers, not having to add another round to the magazine every time.

That makes perfect sense. I used to do it that way on my old Taurus model 92 (Beretta-like) and it seemed to work just fine.

Some folks seem to believe that there are only Glocks or 1911s in this world.E10 wrote:The definitive answer: IT DEPENDS...

Ruger also includes instructions in their P95 manual on loading the gun from the top directly into the chamber to use in single shot mode. Ruger happens to have a lifetime warranty, I really don't believe Ruger would be giving out this advice if it would break their guns.
