DPS Processing Times

Post by ambitman »

97 days from the time DPS got my forms to the day the CHL arrived in the mail. I know I am a good guy because I sure wouldn't have this license if I had one issue. This is a good thing. I think I will open a business for CHL people only. This way I know I will always get paid on time and the people will be honest. I am happy to be in the club with this outstanding group of citizens. :tiphat:

DATE A COMPLETE APPLICATION RECEIVED BY DPS: July 16th, 2008
DATE PIN # LETTER MAILED: My letter is dated August 8th, 2008 (still in Processing App)
DATE LICENSE WAS RECEIVED: incoming showed active on Oct. 23rd
TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS IN PROCESSING: 99!
DID YOU RECEIVE A LETTER FROM DPS REGARDING A DELAY: Nope
DID YOU CAUSE ANY DELAY IN PROCESSING. IF YES, EXPLAIN: N/A
IF DPS GAVE YOU A VERBAL EXPLANATION (EXCUSE) FOR ANY DELAY, PLEASE EXPLAIN: pick any excuse you want, they make it up on the fly!
WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION LATER: Yes

Any time I emailed the DPS or called them, I got random excuses and sob stories. I wanted to tell them what I thought, but simply stated that I could not tell them anythign that they have not already heard!

Around day 95 or so I contacted 2 stated reps, the Lt Gov and Gov's Offices. I heard back from all but the Lt Gov (Senator's Office called and the other's emailed) and BAMM less than a week later went to Active and even had a message from DPS telling me my CHL was mailed out 10-23-08 (they seamed very pro-active about telling me it was mailed out the day before and gave their name 3 times during the call... so someone lite a fire under them)! From what I gather (and was told) many people contact their local reps about this problem and if you have been waiting a long while, they will try to get you moved up. I explianed to them how many people including a coworker were sending in their apps a month after me, but were already showing active. So contact your elected officials, it worked for me!

For those of you still waiting for your CHL, which I plan on getting mine next month... well at least testing for it.. I did the Utah which will let me carry legal here in Houston while waiting for the CHL.. I figure next June... LOL (No that is for real) "rlol" I talked to the lady doing my app for Utah and she said I would have plastic in hand most likely by November 15th.. thats about a month after they got my App... she said the Background check will still be pending but the license will be issued and I will be good to go. Unless my BG comes back bad.. I will be good to go.. and good ol Texas will still be processing the CHL... :rules:

After 90 days waiting, I called my state representative and asked for help. A friend who applied with me the same day had received his license 4 weeks earlier. After 6 days I hadn't heard back from My rep so I called them again. They returned my call and said DPS had told them my license had been mailed "yesterday". I checked the DPS website and it said Application complete, certificate active. Since I live about 100 miles from Austin I naively thought I'd get the plastic in a day or two. I got it today, Five days after they said they mailed it, and it was postmarked two days AFTER they said it was mailed. I learned two things from this experience. I'll NEVER let my license expire again, and, DPS WILL blow smoke at you.

Applied JULY 19
Rceived License Oct. 27th

207 days with no real explaination was horribly wrong If it had not been for my great State Rep Jodie Laubenberg I am sure I would
still be waiting. Several time during this process I was told I would receive a call from a supervisor. I am still waiting for that call.

Thanks to Joe Driver's office (who also happens to be the chair of the Law Enforcement Committee), my CHL was received within a week of notifying Mr. Driver's office. It shouldn't have taken a state legislator's intervention to receive my CHL that had obviously been sitting on someone's desk. How do I know this? Because I received an old-style license, well after the new-style licenses were being issued and received.

Sent Certified mail (should have used Registered but in this case it did not matter) on 08/28/08. Early this week the Web site changed from "processing application" to "certificat issued" - license came in the mail today, Saturday November 1st. No complaints.

Maybe they are getting caught up?
