So October 4th will be 90 day mark for me... I just emailed them being a bit more pushy for answers... if they go pass the 90 day mark, can they get into trouble? Other than legal help and $$ on my part of course.

Man I wish they would hurry up!

I heard a short hwile back they hired 12 more people to help with the processing after some politician's CHL took forever to get... I think anyway...

Well...for those residents of the Gulf Coast counties that were effected by Hurricane Ike, we just learned that Ike isn't finished with us yet.

DPS sent a letter on 9/29 by e-mail, stating that all county background checks from hurricane-effected Gulf Coast counties are expected to be delayed...excerpt follows. I started my application and paid my fee online before the state sent my packet. Is is true that by doing this, the "field investigations" are initiated prior to receipt of the completed & returned packet?

Excerpt:
Dear Sir/Madam:
This letter is to inform you of an unforeseen delay with the processing of your concealed handgun application. Due to the catastrophic events and aftermath of Hurricane Ike, obtaining the required field investigation results for the counties located in the Gulf Coast area will be delayed for an unknown period of time while disaster recovery efforts are underway. The Department remains hopeful that these delays will be minimal; however, a specific timeframe for processing is not available at this time. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding in this matter. If you have any further questions, please visit our Website: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... sindex.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The Website will be regularly updated with additional information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,
Jan Coffey, Manager Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau

Not sure why I walked into Harris County Court Records yesterday and was out in 15 minutes with my background info that I need to submit with my App... I would say Galveston, would be hard to research, but Harris County - Houston should have no problems right now.
Thanks David

That's what I was hoping to hear from someone in the "know". I would imagine that, with the resources of the 4th largest city in the U.S., there wouldn't be any disruption with clerical-type data flow in Harris County. Yes, I can see where Galveston County would be completely non-responsive right now and for the long-term forseable future.

I'm curious what DPS means by "field investigation results" in their delay letter. Is that a search of the Harris County Court records only, or what exactly? Is this something that I could go and retrieve myself and send it to the DPS-Austin?

I know while I was in there I say a DPS person pulling records and logging onto a computer so I wonder if that is the field person onsite?
Thanks David

I do not know whether to be discouraged or excited as I see that several posts here show DPS receiveing packets after me, yet already having plastic issued. My record is clean, so maybe they don't like me :(. I am currently at day 86 since they received my info! Perhaps it is the speed at which the BG checks come in??? If that is the case, curse the city/county of Dallas!

I think they should replace those working in that department with those that have had to endure the bull wait times our great government forces upon us and I bet things would run much much smoother!

So again, since I am kinda clueless on where to start on the State Rep contact, where do I look for that info so that I might get them fighting for my case???

Go to the "Waiting Room" forum. I am sure there are lots of people to help you out there. This forum is only for the process times.
