What is your favorite range?

We live in north Frisco, Tx area & shoot at the 3 closest ranges.
"The Backwoods Trap" on Hwy 380 is only a few minutes drive from my home so we shoot there most of the time. Semi-covered for protection from the weather. Not a great pistol range unless your shooting a buntline. Targets too far away for short barrel consealment pistols. But what I really like about Backwoods Trap is I can back my car up to the shooting range instead of packing all my gear like a pack mule.

When needing to shoot indoors we use "The Bullet Trap" in Plano. Very friendly people, rentals available & good pistol range with pull up targets.

Our favorite range for pistol shooting is "The Collin County Gun Range" in McKinney. Semi-covered for protection from the weather. Friendly & helpfull employees. Usually not too crowded.

Yes it's open to the public.

We shoot IDPA Sunday morning matches there.

Yes Jim it is open to the public You will probably like it unless you are shooting short barrel pistols. I don't know why they don't construct a pistol range with varying distances for S.D close up practice.

I like to shoot at Bullet Trap in Plano,Tx. It is always clean & has a very nice store with pretty good prices. Here is their site.

Another vote for the Bullet Trap. Took my CHL course, purchased my GI Champ, and spend just about every Saturday there. Great staff! So good in fact, I am now a member!

+1 for the Bullet Trap.
I like it because I can take my lady there. It's a family-friendly type place, unlike other ranges i've been to in the past.

Yes, I like Bullet Trap as well, even though the first time I went there was in July....WAY to hot, they had the fans on...I had heard that last year a guy came in there, rented a gun, then killed himself on the range....Can anyone comfirm that?
Anyway, I do like it and the staff is very helpful....

I may have to take a drive up there and check it out, I live in Flower Mound and shoot at Quail Creek on 35 above the Race Track....I like the guys that run it and it's an outdoor range as well..But, they have nothing shorter than 10 yards., I asked they why they can't have a 7 yd. range and was told it's an insurance issue and if they had 7 yrds., the age to shoot would go to 21 and above, new one on me..............

Well, I don't know about The Bullet Trap, but that did happen at Target Masters in Garland. I've seen the pictures. I was stationed up the street at the time. It occured on a different shift though.

Wife, son and I went on very regular basis to DFW Gun Club on Mockingbird; near Love Field....we enjoyed the staff, facilities...and everything until March 19....they day the rains stacked up and pulled down the roof on the 'long-gun' side lanes....
Fortunately no one injured but the outside wall took out bunch of cars parking area along side. Handgun lanes open....but only to Members Only until everything gets rebuilt....about month now believe remaining.... Call for details...good people!

TargetMasters in Garland...large indoor range...family owned...nice layout...if did math correct has the best deal in Family Memberships...shooting session cards...discounts.

We went to Backwoods Traps last Tuesday. Closed sign on the office door. Went in and asked if it is true and previous owner said it had been bought by developer and Staturday April, 15, was last day. Another victim of progress. I'm gonna miss that place!

And now Collin County Gun Range is closing down at the end of August. Driven out of business by zoning restrictions that were put into place after the property was annexed by the city.

I really enjoy shooting at Quail Creek which is off FM1171 and 35, above Texas Motor Speedway. Outdoor range, $10 all day, nice bunch of guys run it, that is where I took my CHL course, I beleive in backing the "little guy". The range has 15,25,50 and 100yrds. I just wish they had a 7 & 10 yrd. pistol range..
Does anyone shoot at the Ranges in the Ft.Worth area? Which ones do you like?

I favor the Elk Castle on the west side along I-30. They are pretty strict about their range rules and they are enforced. I like that. The range guys behind the counter have a direct view of the firing line so they can watch what's going on. Their a/c is pretty decent too. I only wish they stayed open a little later. They close at 6:00 so it's pretty much impossible to leave work, run home to get my gun, then make it to Elk Castle with enough time to shoot.

The others I go to in Fort Worth are Winchester Gallery on the east side off 820/Lancaster. Nice range. Lots of lanes. A bit more in cost but they are open a little later. One group of lanes is in direct view of the range guys. Two other sets are off to the side.

On Target in Benbrook has a nice 25 yard range. The dividers are thick plexiglass so you can see your neighbor better. Nice friendly bunch and they are open till 8 pm half the week and 9 pm the other half. That's a big plus for me.

The Shooters Club is off I-35/NE28. Small range. A little more relaxed on rules. Unlike the previous ranges I mentioned, the guys behind the desk cannot see the firing line. Their backdrop is only 10-12 yards I believe so you often get chips of concrete or lead flying back at you when the idiot in the next lane starts rapid firing. They have signs about no rapid firing but everyone does it and no one seems to care. The good thing is that they are open till 7 pm almost everyday of the year. They only close like 6 days out of the year.
